Nice overnight near Coolangatta Airport. Right on the beach and close to venues/entertainment. Staff were friendly and the bar downstairs stay open until at the weekend.

It's a Hostel!

I booked a private room, which was a bunk with double mattress on the bottom and a single on the top. Thankfully the room was air-conditioned.
As the hostel is the 2nd floor of the "local" (i.e. bar), it is very noisy until well after midnight.
I had to make the bed, and the mattress was covered in tobacco (at first I though it was bed bugs). The room cost $80 for the night, next time I will pay the $50 or so more and stay in a proper hotel. As the lady at the front desk told me when I was checking in, "You know that this is a hostel!?".
Remember that before booking here!

Can't go wrong in terms of a hostel. Private rooms available. Supermarket, cinema, Kirra beach and restaurants within a few minutes walking distance. Free toast, weetbix and corn flakes for breakfast. Pub downstairs.

arrived during cyclone oswald and the sands hostel had suffered damage from the high winds and rain and the place was consequently flooding. staff were very helpful in finding us another place to stay and promised to refund our money as soon as power was back on.
Nightlife Tip:
If going out on Gold Coast use the club's website to pre-register for the guest list so you don't have to pay a $10 door fee! (e.g. Vanity and Sin City)

it s a good place to stay if you're in your 20's. it's clean and most of all, the staff are very helpful. the accommodation is above a pub, so expect some noise on the week end. i actually booked a female dorm, but was got a coed dorm instead. agoda says check in is 11am but its really 12pm. the backpacker is located in a convenient area for eating and shopping and most of surfing!

Good Enough for a Transit or Short Stay

We stayed for a night because it was so near the Gold Coast airport, since we had a morning flight to catch. On a bus (Surfside 761), it was merely 8 minutes to the airport in the wee morning with no traffic.
There are alot of cheap shops and food places to visit, as the location is merely packed with it. And you can start your day strolling at Queen Elizabeth Park, or walk your way down as you soak the sun and breeze towards Point Danger! Pretty awesome sight and the weather was amazing (to us, of course) during the time we stayed there (October 2012).
The bed was a little hard and uncomfortable, and the sheets were too thin so we slept in cold, but other than that, the room has been maintained well and clean. Even the shared toilets and somking lounges were neat and clean at all times.
This is a good place for backpackers as they provide a great variety of activities, deals and even charitable/volunteer opportunities for their patrons. The Currumbin Widlife Santuary (along with their Yanguwah dinner) is just a few stops away and it is definitely a must-try.

Good loation in Coolangatta

The room is big and clean. It has balony outside the room so you can lie down there to enjoy the sunshine or reading. It is in Coolangatta central, and the local bus stop is just 5mins walk. The buses toward Gold Coast Airport and Surfers' Paradise. It is quite convineince. The only disadvantage is too far from Surfers' Paradise. It's nearly 70-80mins if you take the bus.
