A magnificent, two-storey sandstone building, built in 1883, featuring high ceilings and ornate, stained-glass windows. The Marree Hotel has been welcoming travellers and adventurers to the Australian outback for generations, and today, the welcome is just as warm, though amenities are perhaps slightly more luxurious than those experienced by her first patrons. Rooms are well appointed and comfortable, with all that�s needed after the long gruelling trip to get here. Maree itself is one of those quintessential Australian outback settlements carved out of the unforgiving desert, solely dependent on the ground water that bubbles to the surface at nearby Hergott Springs. Definitely worth stopping for a couple of days, just to soak up the atmosphere of this extraordinary community. Nearby Lake Eyre is not to be missed, though the last time there was any water there, was 20 years ago. No need to bring a towel.
