Really funky hotel with friendly helpful staff

recently stayed at hotel arts in barcelona so when sourcing a hotel saw the cullen and decided on booking. arrived early 9.30 am but staff were only too willing to let us have room immediately which many hotels don't allow or make you feel like they are doing you a really big favour. room was a studio suite and it is rather small especially as it has a kitchenette but we could have chosen a bigger room and will when we return. every appointment in the room is of a high standard great tv good programs and movies. great shower, bathroom small but good storage. bathroom only separated from room with glass but with a great ned kelly etching.
didnt use hotel restaurants, will next time.
location is away from downtown melbourne but in a great area almost on chappell st and works well with excellent markets opposite.
a really refreshing change from the big hotel chains will definitely return and recommend to all

Fantastic Hotel
Room size, well designed rooms, very clean, location for cafes/restaurants etc.

stayed for 6 days and found the hotel very comfortable, clean and easy. the rooms are well equipped and large. the location is not really close to the city but the area around the hotel is great.
Restaurant Tip:
Go to Fog for a drink/dinner.

a good hotel worth visiting
the structure of the room is convenient and the bed is so comfortable. I like the paitings on the wall.

I went to Melbourne with my mom .the hotel is not far from federation square,ony takes you 15mins by tram. the room is so cozy with alot of paintings on the wall and the bed is so comfortable.just beside the hotel there are restaurants and supper markets that makes everything like living at home .

A Very nice hotel, good location & quiet.
Clean & modern. Garage very convenient beneath hotel.

We travelled into the city quite often using the trams, 15-20 mins.
Shopping Tip:
There is good shopping in chapel street and also the Prahran market is located opposite the hotel. Several good restaurants are located adjacent to the hotel within walking distance.

Interesting Hotel and great location.
The decor of the room ,art work,in room books and amenities. Location fantastic, restaurant excellent.

I loved the hotel.The Adam Cullen art work throughout the Hotel, and the books in the room were informative and great to read. Magazines were also current and interesting. The room itself had a wonderful view over Melbourne, was directly opposite the Prahran market which is a great market and a short walk to Chappel Street. What more could you wish for in a location. My husband and I agreed that the bedding was the best ever and facilities in the room were top class. Parking was very accessible and we would definately stay at "The Cullen" again.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Read up on in house books covering Australian artists and make a booking at the restaurant as it was at capacity but we managed a table. Ladies; definately shop down Chappel Street.

I stayed here for 2 nights in one of the balcony suites. The balcony was huge - not what I expected from a 'pod' but perhaps I was upgraded. The rooms are not huge but big enough and very stylish. It's great location just of Chapel Street, and handy for trams into the city. The service was lacking however; for example, my room was not cleaned but someone had been into my room and moved a chair. Even so, I'd stay again for the location and the feel of the design. I had a great meal at the restaurant downstairs too.

Very nice boutique hotel. Rooms are quite big, with design bathroom.
Small deck on the top next to the gym which make it nice to spend time doing nothing!
Ideally located between Melbourne City Center and St Kilda.
Has all public transportation either way.
Nightlife Tip:
Don't hesitate to go to St Kilda - lots of shops / restaurants / ...

breezy check in. service with a great smile and sense of humour.
studio room small but very cosy. bed is a great size with real nice linen. room service was efficient from the restaurant downstairs. would definitely use it again. for a hotel in this area the staff were not pretentious in any way

The rooms are well designed and very similar to the other art series hotels in Melbourne. I wouldn't recommend eating at the hotel as their are so many better places around it. If it's your first time in Melbourne this is a great choice as it's close to the city, but also the great culture your find in Melbourne's suburbs.
