i still don't uderstand how come this hotel has even 4stars. cleaness of room was reasonable but smell from old carpet made me sick. disgusted smell and dust made me turn off. couldn't open room window. if i stay there more than 3days i thought i will get sick from this thick air and carpet smell. i can't say staff was bright. location was very good though.

Great location - 5 min. walk to train station, free city circle tram, Immigration museum and the Melbourne Aquarium. Don't forget to visit the Shrine of Remembrance, Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne ZOO (our favorite!), Federation Square and walk along the Yarra River.

The hotel is well located in the CBD and offers clean rooms and a good service. The rooms are well cleaned and if you can get a refurbished room they are quite nice.
The only downside I find is it's supposed to be a non smoking hotel but there are wall-mo0unted ashtrays neat the doors around which the smokers congregate.

Good location, only double bed not queen for couple. Not enough liquid soap for 2 people, received 1 small bottle a day for first 2 days and 2 small bottles the last day. You can ask for more liquid soap but its hard when your in the shower.

Overpromising pictures, big dissapointment

Beware: The actual rooms do not look like the pictures.
Avoid the budget courtyard rooms at all cost!
We were actually a group of 3 couples for 3 rooms and we asked for a change for all 3 rooms, so we checked in total 6 rooms in that hotel, so I feel reasonable assured that our impression is not based on the "one bad room" they have amd a big portion of bad luck.
We still changed the hotel after one night. If you value the location greatly, dont mind mold/dirt, i guess it is okay to "crash" for one night to move on, but dont expect a nice room for a pleasant stay with a lot of time spent in the hotel.
The hotel staff and manager were trying hard to make this work and offered basically everythign they could. Thumbs up for that, however it doesnt magically change the conditions of the rooms and the expectations based on the pictures in comparison to the actual room where (for us) worlds apart.

Grotty hotel in need of a make-over

Stayed one night in this hotel and it was one too many. We knew it wasn't going to be a good experience before we even got to our room because the reception carpet looked like it needed a good cleaning and there was rubbish in the lift. The guy who checked us in was polite but scruffy, the other "receptionist" was in the process of shouting at a guest because he hadn't given them enough notice that he wanted to stay another night(though god knows why they wanted to stay any longer). We booked a deluxe room but there was nothing deluxe about the room we were given, the carpet had some nasty looking stains, the bed looked like it was hand made, and was wobbly, the bed spread smelt pretty bad, the bathroom was grotty and the furnishings were old. The TV was so old in fact that the week previously we had visited a museum in New Zealand and they had the exact make and model on display! I think that this hotel is in serious need of a make-over and their staff could do with some further training (in fairness the guy who checked us out was polite and was even wearing a tie).If you need a hotel in the CBD I'm sure that there are others that are better than this for a similar price.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
This hotel is opposite the train and bus station and there is a bus that goes to the airport every 10 minutes for $17 and takes the same time as a taxi. Also take advantage of the free tram that goes around the city, it gives information about every stop so it's almost as good as a tour bus.
