Lovely boutique hotel in a great spot

we spent 2 nights at the lyall, and were impressed by the size and design of the suite, which was actually more an apartment. fridge, cooker etc were available, all of which were unused due to the number of good restauarnts around. 10 mins to the botanical gardens and a 20 min walk to the city, the location is very good, and the side street location surprisingly quiet. not cheap but worth a stay!
Nightlife Tip:
Close to 2 cinemas and heaps of restaurants - France-Soir (yes French) was good.

Quiet Hotel, great location, outstanding helpful staff.

The staff at this hotel is excellent, helpful in every way. The location is right in the middle of the hip part of Melbourne for anyone wanting to go out for a bite to eat or just browsing or shopping.
Restaurant Tip:
Lots of places to go out and try great Melbourne coffee or eats.

We stayed over a weekend. Breakfast on both days let the hotel down as we were brought incorrect dishes. Staff were apologetic and lovely, so a minor issues, but 5 star hotel should not have this problem.

Initially disappointed with location /greeting

Arrived at 9am after long international flight , room not ready no problem but was advised to go away and come back at. noon. No offer of coffee or breakfast. First room at back of hotel not refurbished, we moved and they had a much better room at front which was refurbished- why did we not get this initially. Certainly NOT 5 star, def. misleading. Champagne bar is a 1 meter shelf beside very small. (4-5 ) tables breakfast area. Location up side street with outlook onto carpark at rear.
Would not recommend hotel to anyone. 3-4 star max. Staff at reception not unfriendly but not exactly accommodating . Nice Scottish waiter at breakfast who chatted.
Really disappointed in hotel.

Go to St Kilda beach , tram no. 16 from South Yarra short walk from hotel

Great quiet location, professional service

My flight has landed in Melbourne very early in the morning so I was hoping that an early check in will be possible. The staff did their best and within an hour my room was available. Staff is very friendly, helpful and professional, helped me find my way around the area, advised on sightseeing tips as well as booked a tour. Spacious clean room. Great location in nice and quiet neighbourhood, easy to get to the city center.

For the price per night we were expecting a top quality hotel, but found that it was a bit tired with old bathroom fittings with mould in the grouting and old worn furniture. Although we'd paid for three nights, we elected to stay only one and moved to a new hotel which was less expensive and much nicer.

We will happily return. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The room was lovely and spacious. The bathroom well appointed and loved the spa bath. The bed was comfortable but there needed to be another blanket on the bed if bedspread is removed.Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our three day stay.

being disabled i needed a little bit of extra care, which the staff were so happy to give. the spa day was so relazing i left feeling close to 100%. the food and service were what you would expect from this hotel. beautiful.
