old victorian style hotel, nice exterior but interior is getting old and can get a refresh. excellent service, especially the concierge, gave excellent recommendation for restaurant. free internet access (with hotel computer) at lobby. good location, across the road from the parliament house and old treasury building, couple of streets from chinatown and musical theatres, next to collins street for high end shopping, walking distance to federation square and yarra river. free city circle tram stop just outside hotel.
Restaurant Tip:
the meat and wine co on south bank serves excellent kangaroo fillet.

we have chosen to stay at the windsor on many occassions. the hotel is becoming a little tired in places however the rooms are beautifully furnished and kept in immaculate condition. i would recommend it highly to anyone who wants a different experience than the typical modern 4+ star hotel.

Our room was ready for an early check in and the dorrman and reception staff were excellent. Our room had a stale odour on entering and we opened the bathroom window and went out for the day. On return the smell was still apparent even after we asked for the lavendar pillows. We located the source of the smell which appeared to be mildewed curtains that seemed to have been wet due to rain. We mentioned the odour to the reception staff who immediately changed us to a new room of a higher quality (even though we did not specifically request a room change). They acted immediately and we were extremely happy with the new room which was fragrant and airy. Bed sheets were luxurious!!
Restaurant Tip:
Coffee shop on the corner one block east, great breakfast and lunches.

i arrived well before the check in time of 2.00 pm - however, i was able to go to my room as soon as i arrived and this was a real plus.
room service was prompt and attentive, and staff were friendly / helpful.
perhaps the best feature of the hotel was that it was quiet - despite its cbd location. combined with the overall spaciousness of the windsor, the experience was a very comfortable one.
Travel tip:
Excellent for business visitors with room facilities to do work, and close to the business centre in Melbourne.

Greeted by concierge who took our bag immediately, quick checkin, very clean and foyer elegantly decorated for Christmas.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Very close to train and tram stops, so easy manouvering around city.

We were very well received on arrival, and hotel staff took our luggage to our hotel room. The room was very well furnished, but aspects of this 1884 hotel - such as chandelier - were preserved.
Nightlife Tip:
Take a train 96, 2 minutes from the hotel - to vibrant St. Kilda. Great restaurants and night life.

I came with my (adult) daughter, as we were going to a concert that night. The staff were courteous and friendly, and we were surprised at the generous size of the room, the lovely furnishings, and overall quality of the room and it's inclusions...comfortable bed, nice sitting area with arm chairs to relax and have a cuppa; spacious bathroom and dressing room, which made it more relaxing.
The In Room dinig was a wonderful experience too..the Dinner and Breakfast were promply delivered, and were delicious.
A great experience.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Lots of beautiful parks and gardens in the vicinity, as well as great shopping. The Circle Tram is a great way to get around.

Like stepping back in time............
we were impressed that everything is still old...even the reception desk looks original! it truly was like having a few days in in era long gone!! due to unforeseen circumstances, our teenage son spent the first 2 nights with us, the staff were very helpful in arranging an extra bed and they even upgraded us to a larger room at no cost!

What a beautiful Hotel and as soon as you arrive at the front steps it is apparent that this is no ordinary Hotel. Everything from the foyer, reception, lift areas and even the Powder Room is adorned with antiques, beautiful. The high ceilings, antique light fittings and 'creaks' in the hallways as you walk to your room all add to the ambience of this lovely old Hotel. Even the housekeepers wear traditional black uniforms with full white aprons.....a refreshing change these days!
Our room was beautiful and clean and the bed extremely comfortable with lovely down king size pillows. The theme was continued throughout our room with old style carpets, curtains with ornate pelmets, old style furniture and an old marble bathroom!
Which brings me to our one minor criticism, there could have been a bit more room for our toiletries, makeup etc in the bathroom.
We recommend this to singles, couples and smaller families with adult children.

Extremely small room and very expensive

When we looked on the website at the traditional room it looked an awful lot bigger. We had been told how good the Windsor Hotel was but we were extremely disappointed. We ordered breakfast which was supposed to consist of bacon, sausage, baked beans, ham, 2 eggs, toast, tomato and mushrooms. It consisted of 2 eggs, 1 slice of toast, 2 tomatoes and 1 mushroom.
Would definitely not go back.
