The staff member who showed us how a wedding is organised in your hotel
We had great 24 hours which included staff delivering our bags to our room as we had to go straight to Jersey Boys when we got in from the airport. They were helpful the next morning suggesting alternate little breakfast cafes (We wen to Cumulus inc) and at midday a staff member showed us how a wedding runs; we were with our son's fiance and parents and they later went on to confirm the booking in August. So we look forward to staying again then.

Friendly Service, very good dining. comfortable rooms. If you like period decor, then this hotel certainly is there.
The hotel does need modernizing in order to keep up with those around it. But in doing so it may take away its appeal to those travelers who like 100 year old hotels keeping with past eras.
My five night stay was most enjoyable. When I entered the foyer, it was like stepping back 100 years. The decor is from that era but the staff certainly is not. I found the reception and concierge staff to be most accommodating and my room was ready when I arrived. The housekeeping staff were most amiable and all requests were met with a smile.
During my stay I took advantage of trying the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner. At breakfast diners have two choices. Firstly there is a wonderful smorgasborg which comes at a set price. However for those like myself who cannot eat large meals the A La Carte menu provides the answer. Dining in the evening I selected the filet which was excellent. To compliment the steak I chose a glass of cabernet recommended by the staff. It turned out to be a great choice. If you are looking for old world charm, and a touch of class then I recommend the Hotel Windsor.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : A wonderful shopping/dining place around the corner on Collins Street called Collins Plaza.
Also for train travel just step out of the foyer and walk 50 yards and Parliament Station is there. Around the corner on Collins Street one can find a tram. So hotel is handy to shopping, dining and transportation

Dinner and Breakfast served in "111 Spring St" the restaurant
was fantastic, Concierge was truly wonderful best assistance and service I think I have received friendly and helpful. Bed was great.
If you are looking for Chrome Glass and LCD TV's this is not the place. Room could have done with a little more update.
If your looking for classic old style service and style with etiquette and sophistication this is it ... but if you are an average "Joe" who is looking for something special you wont be made feel out of place. We were made to feel like part of the "Windsor" family from the moment we arrived. Breakfast was outstanding, the service from all members of staff was flawless especially the concierge/door staff whom for two people that had never been to Melbourne before and asked a lot of questions were so helpful, patient, friendly and knowledgeable . I cannot say enough about what a lovely stay we had ...
Shopping Tip : MCG, Captain Cooks Cottage, Museum, IMAX all within walking distance. Free City Circle Tram stop outside front door, close to Restaurants. Skybus Service from airport offers free shuttle to and from Windsor from Docklands Depot ....

Location is very handy. The staff are quick with check in and very helpful with bags etc.
My furnishings were worn and threadbare in spots and my toiletries were not renewed despite staying for more than one night and paying the same price each night.
No safe in your room. You have to use deposit boxes at reception which is inconvenient for jewelry etc.
I found the staff friendly and courteous. The Location is ideal and the food is wonderful. I travel international frequently and found some things at this hotel frustrating. The non replacement of toiletries and no room safe for passports and valuables were the two big ones. Boxes are available at reception but I prefer something in my room. I would recommend The Windsor but suggest not using the traditional room as the upgrades have better provisions.
Shopping Tip : Short walk to Myers and David Jones. Treasury museum across the road from hotel

The hotel was constructed in the 1880s and is similar in philosophy to the Hydro in the Blue Mountains in NSW. Being in the Windsor is a reminder of old world graciousness and a few moments to forget modern glass and cement minimalist hotels that infest the world.
Travel tip : Really close to everything in Melbourne.
