Darling Harbour

The Darling Harbor precinct is one of Sydney city center's most attractive for tourists. Located on the edge of the Central Business District – the CBD – it was developed around Cockle Bay predominantly as an entertainment zone with many restaurants, shops and bars. The Darling Harbor precinct encompasses Cockle Bay Wharf, King Street Wharf, Pyrmont, parts of Chinatown and Cockle Bay, a relatively small cove that opens up to Sydney Harbor.

There are many points of interest for the visitor to Darling Harbor. On the city side, King Street Wharf offers upscale restaurants, Sydney Aquarium, a ferry wharf (exclusively for cruises rather than commuters), stylish bars, the LG Imax theater (the largest in the world) and the iconic Home nightclub, a popular after-hours destination for music lovers.

Moving around the bay to the west is Tumbalong Park, Sydney Convention and Exhibition Center and Sydney Entertainment Center, where the city's major concerts and music events are staged. On the opposite side of Cockle Bay lies the Harborside Shopping Center, a large shopping mall with a high concentration of souvenir shops and food outlets. The National Maritime Museum is adjacent to this shopping mall.

Further west, visitors will find Star City Casino – the only casino in the city – and the Lyric Theatre, home to stage shows and concerts. Darling Harbor precinct extends to Pyrmont where Sydney Fish Market is located. Seafood is a staple of Sydney cuisine and here visitors will find it at its most fresh, affordable and abundant.

The Darling Harbor area links to Sydney city center by light rail, a tram that runs through Pyrmont to the inner western suburb of Lilyfield. There is also a monorail that links the hotels on the western side to the city center, doing a circuit through the CBD that is used almost exclusively by tourists.
