Quality of rooms and service. Proximity to Harbour and Rocks precinct.

Expensive parking, and they damaged the car!

This Sydney based Shangri-La meets the expectation one has of the chain, in that the rooms and service and facilities are first class. It has an awkward entry in an unusual location, but is an easy walking distance from downtown Sydney, the Rocks, and Circular Quay, an excellent starting off place for the Opera house, Zoo, Manly and Darling Harbour precinct. The high level Restaurant and Bar is worth a visit even if you do not stay in the Hotel.

Hotel Feature Tip : Wonderful level 37 Restaurant and Bar with great views of Sydney Harbour.

Good all around. Familiar 5 star standards and services.

Shangrila Sydney has limited massage options, unlike what the spa information on the hotel information book says. Shangrila Sydney is a bit confusing, you must reserve for dinner but you cannot reserve for breakfast.

Shangrila Sydney has all the standard 5 star hotel services and facilities. My disappointment was with the Spa. Eventhough it is not owned by Shangrila, but there was some misleading information from Shangrila that should have been updated to guests. While there, I was thinking of getting a massage after a long travel. I opened the hotel information booklet to see the phone number and the type of massages offered by the hotel spa. When I called the spa, it turns out that many of the massage options in the information booklet are not available (ever) such as swedish massage etc. Also the spa closes a bit too early for my taste, I kinda know that everything in Australia closes earlier than places like Macau, or Jakarta. For a pure hotel experience I prefer a place like Grand Lisboa Macau. It's more luxurious in terms of room design and better value for money. Of course, that's not a fair comparison considering the higher cost of living in Sydney. But as I mention before, if it's just pure hotel experience I prefer Lisboa Macau. So if someone offer me a choice between lisboa macau and shangrila sydney for a stay & I'm not allowed to leave the hotel, I prefer Lisboa Macau Another matter, I left a package at the porter to be picked up by my friend. My friend went to the concierge instead. It was my friend's mistake. However, the concierge was adamant that there was no package for my friend. The concierge could have asked around first(to porter and reception) before commenting that there is no package at all. Finally the concierge asked the porter and found the package. All in all, it's an ok and typical 5 star hotel. It has good location, good menu, friendly enough staff. But couldn't find that extra 'touch' that would make me say it stands out among the 5 star hotels.

Hotel Feature Tip : If you want to have dinner please book one day in advance to be sure. The dinner menu looks nice but I didn't get the chance to try because I did not make reservation. Dinner time always look full, so book way in advance.

the view was excellent, the beds very comfortable and the beddings excellent

Somebody nocks on your door at 8pm just to ask if need room service, kinda scary, I asked the front desk if that's normal, they said no. No coffee maker nor hot water for your morning tea. Never vaccum the floor the whole 7 days that we were there.

I will recommend, because of the location, and the view, and quality of beddings, the service was ok, they gave what we ask for. the carpet was kinda dirty, they never vaccum the whole time we were there. The buffet was excellent, the price is kinda expensive, but the service was wonderful.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : you can do all this things by your own because it is all accesible by bus and train and all shopping is within in walking distance.

Location is not bad - Rocks area. Very Friendly staff allround. Clean Good working area good sized bathroom/toilet Quiet - if you like that - small lobby. No bars or the usual Shabgri-la "trademark" restaurants in sight !

It didn't seem like a place to live it up - it was very quiet and not lavishly presented. Room feels wee bit small View not fantastic - we took opera view but to really appreciate the scenery you would need a harbour AND opera view room which is a jump up a notch in price. Not cheap for what it is but then they are not reknown for being cheap.

It is a good clean place if you are after a low key stay with an expensive view. Dont expect the Shangri-la of Asia which have cost me more than the opera view room in Sydney. I prefer the lively well appointed and much better located Four Seasons which is not a new hotel - it was the Regent - but presumably totally refurbished now. Located in beautiful Rocks area but beware -it is not good if you dont like walking steep inclines! So try the Four Seasons next to it which fronts the main drag of the Rocks.

Wonderful views, outstanding bathroom in hotel room, very reasonable fees

Parking fees too high, not enough TV channels, need better / simpler food menu

I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Sydney. 5 stars in my book.

Great service, great location, large room with a view of the harbor, large bathroom, free internet, helpful staff

check-in was a little slow, bed was a little softer than we like, but we like very hard beds.

We had a very large room with a view of Darling Harbour. Bathroom was also spacious. Location was great in the heart of the Rocks. Close to shopping, restaurants, the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. Also relatively close to the subway line. Staff was helpful.

Hotel Feature Tip : use the staff. We had a problem with our internet connection and they had to refer us to advanced technical support. They were extremely helpful in working out the problem.

Excellent hotel, excellent location. Shangri-la never disappoints!

Buffet dinner was a bit simple.

Also the Shangri-La Sydney was up to expectations (as usual!). Nice comfortable rooms. My room had a view on the Opera House and Sydney Harbour bridge which has a nice atmosphere. The rooms & bathrooms are large. The staff is friendly & well trained. Breakfast is excellent.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Sydney Harbour bridge climb, or simply climb the pylon which is accessible (nearest to the city at the side of the Opera House). Cost 9.50 and you are 82m high (not busy and you can bring up your camera).

Common areas were very nice. Front desk staff was friendly.

Failed to perform turndown service the first night.

Overall the stay was decent, but there were serveral areas that were lacking for what I would expect from a 5 star property. On the first night there they failed to do turndown service and hence did not restock my towels. When I called down in the morning, every extension I could dial on the phone was busy. It took almost an hour to get fresh towels to my room through the busy signals and then half hour wait once I finally did get through. Also, the cafe resturant was subpar. It was setup buffet style, but most of the food was already gone or was dry from sitting there for so long. Nothing was brought out fresh...and this was disappointing since the bill was 163.00 for 2 people. I wish we would have went to a better restruant in the area.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Walk to the top of the nearby bridge to get a good view of the sydney opera house. It is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

excellent location and the room is divine! loved the bar amenities!

added another night to stay and the staff must have not done it totally right because I got a note under the door the day I was supposed to leave and said I wasn't listed..already had my key updated to stay, so the communication wasn't perfect..but the hotel otherwise was outstanding.

I arrived to find my room ready even though I was early..how nice to be able to enjoy the environment early..I was able to go right to the sightseeing I wanted to secure in the knowledge that my luggage was safe and I had a "HOME" awaiting me at the end of the day. I paid to have a view and boy did I!! I never imagined looking down upon the harbor and opera house as close as I was. DRAMATIC is more like it!. I felt safe in the area..The Rocks..and was able to explore so much of the city without feeling like I was walking miles. The staff is the most pleasand and respectful I have ever met! The guest relations desk and conceirge were amazing! Even the bellboy was outstanding! I appreciated that I was allowed to use the computer in the lobby to access the internet as I was having trouble using my laptop that day. Oh, and by the way I did go to the buffet breakfast and it was outstanding! The best I had on my travels through New Zealand and Australia. I even made a point to see where the other sister properties were, so I know to stay at them in my travels as I know I will have an amazing worry free stay. THANK YOU!! It was luxury!!

Hotel Feature Tip : Use the conceirge service..they know what they are talking about and will make your vacation so much easier and stress free!

Views - Location - Friendly, helpful staff - Horizon Club

None

All staff we encountered were pleasant, helpful and happy. From the moment we arrived our experience was exceptional. Checking in several hours early was not an issue and a 3 hours extension on our departure proved equally easy. The Horizon Club was well worth the little extra spend. The included breakfast buffet was what you'd expect from a 5 star hotel and the staff very efficient. This was a special occasion for us and the Shangri-La exceeded our expectations. Thoroughly recommended.

Hotel Feature Tip : Incorporate the Horizon Club into your stay. You won't be disappointed.

Great location & view. Staff are very helpful. Altitude restaurant is fantastic – and not too pricey.

Can’t really think of any! Only that you have to walk up a small hill to get back from Circular Quay.. but the exercise is probably a good thing!

We stayed in a suite on the 31st floor. We were surprised when asked to check into the Club Lounge as the rates were so good! For a first-time visitor to Sydney, you simply can’t beat the Shangri-La when it comes to spectacular views. Our suite’s bathroom looked over Darling Harbour and Western Sydney, the bedroom right on top of the Harbour Bridge and the sitting room over the Opera House and east up to the Heads.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The hotel is only 3 minutes walk from the Harbour Bridge Climb centre. Definitely worth doing – even if you have visited Sydney many times. It is an amazing experience.
