Auckland

Aptly nicknamed the “City Of Sails”, Auckland and her residents enjoy an unbreakable bond with the Southern Pacific Ocean. Situated on the narrow isthmus between the Waitemata and Manukau Harbours, Auckland is a melting pot of people and cultures, distinctly dominated by her Polynesien ancestry, and indigenous Maori heritage.

This harbor-side capital of just over one million inhabitants enjoys an enviable lifestyle that centers around the great outdoors. With superb beaches right in the city, hot springs, dormant volcanos, superb sailing opportunities, and the rainforest shrouded hills that surround the city, one would need weeks and months of exploring to say they’ve truly experienced all that Auckland has to offer.

The cosmopolitan downtown and waterfront are where many of Auckland’s hotels are located, and this is also where the best dining and entertainment is found. Enjoy al-fresco dining, overlooking the harbour during the warm summer months, or dine next to a log fire during those wet winters. Locally caught seafood is a highlight in any of Auckland’s restaurants, and should be washed down with the deservedly famous white wine that New Zealand is well-known for.

Many of Auckland’s hotels offer comprehensive information on the various tours and attractions that are not to be missed in and around the city, and it’s simply a case of prioritising where to go and when. A visit to some of the museums and art galleries is highly recommended, particularly if the weather is disagreeable, and of course no visit to Auckland is complete without a day’s sailing on the Waitemata Harbour.
