Great location, good value

Other than the fact the bathroom fell slightly short of my standards of cleanliness and the checking in problem we had (the hotel staff weren't aware of our booking) this place was fine. Located on Albert street adjacent to queens street it is easy to get to this hotel from the airport and from there very easy to find restaurants and bars etc. the restaurant on the first floor is very good. Overall I'd say its very good value for money.

Comfortable.

The hotel is above a 24 hour pub (good or bad - I'm not sure). The bed was really comfy and I couldn't hear any noise from downstairs. The hotel is only a short walk from the quayside and the train.

A quirky old building with no lift but a great staircase.

My friend and I are both from out of town and were catching up in the city so I booked the Shakespeare, as it was one of the last left. We had a great overnight stay - had a drink in the bar, hung out in town and checked out the next day. Our room was comfortable, clean and had a porthole window! Will definitely go there again

Good location but no elevators

The pub and restaurang, if you like typical English pub food and a nice brew

I guess we were unlucky to get a small room on the 3rd floor, no elevators, which is hard if u have things to carry, but the staff was nice to help us with the suitcases.

Small rooms but good value

Good location, friendly staff

This might have been the smallest room ever, but it was clean and had a regular size bathroom. Good location, friendly staff, and therefore recommendable for a short stay.

Character hotel in the city centre

Grand old historic building in the city centre
9.3
great old building, my room was very interesting. it was very clean and functional. the building houses a bar, which is open late if you need a drink after dinner, and has free wifi. the rooms are high up, so there is no problem with noise. staff were great. the only downside of this wonderful hotel was the fact there is no elevator(it a one of aucklands oldest restored buildings), however this is made up by the fact that the staircase is fantastic.
Travel tip: The Shakespare Tavern makes its own beers, so why not give them a tasting?

Nice room but Loud

lovely room, clean and well-situated

The room was nice, clean and the bathroom was big. But the hotel has a bar at the bottom that never close at night. The music is really loud that even at the last floor we could hear the beats and when we left the hotel at 6am to go to the airport, the bar was still open.

Prime location, great staff.

Location, food, beer, staff, very affordable.
9.3
Room very comfortable, very affordable. Beer brewed on site and very nice too. Meals were great value and tasty. Staff were all friendly and efficient. Great location so close to the CBD, Viaduct Harbour and Aotea Square.
Hotel Feature Tip: Hotel has no lift, however stairs weren't all bad, great excuse to stop at second floor restaurant/bar for beer and refreshments.
