Central location, great parking nxt door, clean and nice rooms, fantastic staff

I didn't see any, other than the bar was closed but it was late on a Monday night.

I stayed at the Grand Chancellor for business, it was an excellent hotel and loved every minute of it. Staff super friendly, professional and relaxed at the same time. They went out of their way to help with everything. Rooms a great size and being on the 23 floor meant we got a very nice view as well. A++++

Location, helpful staff, clean and tidy, quiet room. Discount dining voucher on arrival.

We stayed here on two occasions and both rooms had a squeaky front door which didn't bother us but may have bothered the next door neighbour.

Excellent location near Cathedral Square and also the bus and tram terminals. We had a top floor room with magnificant view of Christchurch. There was a guest laundry which was very convenient. The staff were extremely helpful. There was a complementary shuttle bus to take us to the station to board the Scenic Alpine Train to Greymouth.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : At the Christchurch cathedral, you can walk up the bell tower and see the bells and view the city. If you are looking for souvenirs, across the road from the catherdral, are several shops which offer great value and variety.

Great location. Close to Cathederal square and cafes. Has a coin operated guest laundry. Great rate via Agoda.

All the doors to each hotel room squeek which could be annoying on entering and leaving.

We stayed here twice in only a few days apart while holidaying in New Zealand as we flew in and out of Christchurch. We had great views from the room as both times we were given a top floor room. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The location of the hotel was ideal for wandering around the city as it is in an ideal location. The rooms were clean and tidy.

Shopping Tip : Ther are some great unique shops and cafes around the city within walking distance simply by following the tram route.

Hotel was nice and very centrally located. Provided easy access to many locations and facilities, i.e., Cathedral Square, easy walk for buses, trams, etc.

Might want to watch staying on the Cashel Street side on weekend nights - lots of partying in this area and pretty noisy in the middle of the night

We thought the hotel was great. It had nice accomodations and very clean. Staff was very helpful. The central location was really an advantage. Might want to watch rooms facing Cashel Street on weekend nights.

Hotel Feature Tip : Weekend nights in rooms facing Cashel Street can get a little noisy in the middle of the night. Party town is around the corner and there's lots of crowd partying.

Location, Location and Location.

None.

Location, location and location. This says all. The hotel is centrally located to all major tourist sites. It is within a short walking distance to the city center, the cathedral square and easy access to the city transport center, where you can virtually take any bus to various outskirts of the city. The staffs are friendly and the restaurant serves nice food. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

free drink in bar, breakfast included, and location, location, location !!

no free parking

We got a great deal which included breakfast and also included a drink on arrival. Very nice touch !! the breakfast buffet provided a good selection of choices. The main feature I found favourable about the hotel was its great location, just a couple of minutes walk from the centre of town. Excellent !! Would stay here again on another trip to Christchurch, for sure.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : walking distance to cathedral square

Look a little late-90s. Might wanna update a bit.

This stay on our final nite in NZ, was a memorable one. For one, it was the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that happend at 9.20pm. Guests came down, but my friends & I were still chatting in the coffee house, obviously didn't feel anything. Its a very comfortable luxury hotel, giving us the very comfotable & royal feel. Other than the sole-red-spider we found in our room desk, the other things felt great And it had a bathtub with 2 sofas & a tea-table. Truly relaxing. The room was rather big too, with complimentary newspapers.

Shopping Tip : It is at the corner of the shopping street. I'd say 2mins walk from the entrance of the hotel. And sightseeing is 4mins walk from the entrance. The conceirge were extremely helpful.

Close to the city and easy to find out. Staff is nice and willing to help.

No free car parking is provided and fee is charged.

The overall service is acceptable and the hotel is closed to town. Would recommend to friends on this hotel.

Great price, good location, nice staff and good breakfast.

None

The Grand Chancellor was in a great location in the centre of Christchurch, near to the shops, Cathedral square and with good views of the city, but it was still quiet with no through traffic. The staff were all very cheerful and helpful and the room was replenished daily with a variety of tea and coffee. The bathroom was very clean and large. The buffet breakfast had a good variety of food, with the same selection every day.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The hotel was next to the Hotel So which had an early bird special dinner for only $10 NZ - quite a bargain! Buy your tickets for the Antarctic Centre ahead of time at the tourist office and get a free return shuttle from Cathedral Square. Take bus 28 out to the Gondola for $2.80 NZ rather than booking a tour.

centrally located

heating system not working, slow response from staff, it took us almost two hour to get electrical heater.

we checked in on May 12,2009 and were assigned to a room in 18 th. floor around 6PM. After came back to the hotel about 10 PM,we found out that the room was so cold since the heating system didn't work. I called the reception, your staff came and moved us to the 20 th. floor. Then again, the heating system didn't work. So I called and asked for movable heater. And it took us almost 2 hrs to get that heater. So we went to bed very late.

Furniture and decor a bit worn out.

The hotel is very close to everything. Just a minute walk, you will find everything you need in terms of restaurant, shops etc.

It is a great and classy hotel for those that want a bit of more style, elegance and convenience. The location of the hotel is great, next to the river and everything is close by. Great value for money from www.agoda.com website. If you planing to stay a bit longer the room was unusually large and spacious which makes longer stay more comfortable. I would definitely return back next time.
