A Unique Experience
A breathtaking view, elegant breakfasts, fascinating local history
9
We simply enjoyed the unique experience of sleeping and swimming in this beautiful, historical bay under the care of proprietress Judy. There is a certain amount of organized disorder to the establishment, which can either charm or irritate, depending on whether you are able to just unfurl and let go with the flow. No matter what is going on, the wholesome, abundant and beautiful food is presented with delicious elegance. Your stay has the potential of unexpected, warming delights - there is a heart to this home, and it is opened to you.
Hotel Feature Tip:
There is a dry sauna on the path to the beach, which I imagine would be fantastic in colder months. Try to stay at least two and preferably three or more nights to really unwind and enjoy the beach. Don't forget to look up the history of Anaura Bay and nearby Tolaga Bay with its "picture window stone" is definitely worth a visit.

Exactly what we were looking for...
Beautiful beach location, outstanding service, delicious brekkie!

The room was beautiful, with soft pillows and perfectly understated beach decor, but we found that we spent more time on the small porch outside the double glass doors overlooking the beach. We enjoyed a long walk on the protected beach and if the weather had been better, we would have been out there body boarding in the surf. Everything was well thought out, giving us every option - whether we wanted to read quietly, watch TV or movies from the large DVD library, or join other guests in the large outdoor kitchen (which also overlooks the stunning bay). The best part of the place by far, though, is Judy, the lovely woman who operates the B&B. She greets you with the warmth of a long-lost favorite cousin, and makes the place feel like home straight away. I think she's the hardest working woman in New Zealand, and her breakfast is not to be missed! We will visit Judy again, and have already told everyone we've visited during our stay here on the north island that this is a great place to take a long weekend or even consider for a small family reunion.
