From start to finish, the staff were great.

We were met with a smile and greeted with open arms. I actually booked and found out the room was not available on the dates I wanted to book. This was the fault of the hotel owners. Within two minutes of my booking I was immediately upgraded to a more expensive room for the price of a lower graded room.
Don't hesitate with this hotel.....BOOK IT!

very small hotel with not a lot of rooms

This hotel is really small, we would like to book 4 standard twin rooms, but there are only 3, we hv to book the 4th one as a superior double room. However, the rooms are all neatly decorated, with a lot of light, clean and tidy.
Most weird thing is there is no staff on duty at night time.
We were all left alone in the hotel after the girl helped us in the check in. There may be security issue.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
very near to the Seal Colony, and the shoreline walk, a must go.

The location was great - next to the beach. The rooms itself were lovely and true to the photos. The beds were amazingly comfortable. The staff were really friendly in giving advice about what to do in the area, and welcoming us. I would gladly stay there again.

This place was fantastic and I loved Kaikoura. Owners really friendly and helpful. Rooms and bathroom not large but enough to get ready for your next adventure around this beautiful part of New Zealand.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Seal colony north of Kaikoura much better that one closest to Kaikoura itself.

The Boutique label is misleading
Great location on the sea front but can't enjoy it from the room because the boutique part of the hotel is under construction,

The hotel is nicely located on the sea front within walking distance to the town center and the seal colony in the opposite direction. The hotel is in old building which is currently being renovated. It will be a really nice and befitting the "boutique" label once the construction is completed. At the moment, however, your room will be motel-style in the back of the main building with a cute courtyard. These motel type rooms are newly renovated but very small.
The dining and breakfast prices are very high.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Take a short drive or 30 min walk to the right on the sea front and check out the seal colony.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The hotel is ideally located to the peninsula walk. I also walked a very short distance to the dolphin/albatross encounter to eat a delicious breakfast. My room was fully appointed and comfortable.
Restaurant Tip:
The Sonic in town is terrific. End your peninsula walk at the Pier Hotel with a cold beverage.

Lovely hotel, great location!
Location - main building faces a beautiful part of the beach

We were upgraded to a courtyard room. The room we stayed in was beautiful, kudos to Robyn! Size was just right for a couple. We did wish for heating in the bathroom itself.
The owners were in the process of refurbishing the main building. Once done I'm sure the rooms there would be the best, since they should be overlooking the sea.
