good location on the shore

convenient for the main shops of Paihia, spacious room, everything I needed for a few nights. There was a nice small pool but only 6 sun loungers which sadly, were occupied every time I wanted to sunbathe by the pool. The staff were really helpful and everything was clean and working. All in all, fine for the price.

Lovely hotel overlooking the beach

Our two nights at the Kingsgate Hotel Autolodge went much too fast. Large spacious rooms made it easy to want to go back to the hotel and night, and a two minute walk to the wharf and the main street of the town made it easy to want to go out in the morning.
The room was comfortable and immaculately serviced. There was plenty of space to spread out and the bed was very comfortable after a long day out.
The only unfortunate thing was that our room was located on the second floor, and the only way up was via stairs. This made it harder to get big suitcases (for month long travel) up to our room.
The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful, and free use of bicycles made for a fun afternoon in Russell.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
For amateur landscape photographers, it's well worth getting up early and crossing the street to the waters edge where you will get to experience and photograph eerily still waters covered in a thick mist with a view of the wharf (even in January). Makes for stunning photographs!

You don't really get what you paid....

We stayed there over Christmas and Boxing Day. When we arrived at the hotel on Christmas Day, we asked the lady at reception where we can go or what we can do. Her advice is nothing much as everything especially the tourist sites will be closed. We ventured out on our own and realize, Te Puia and the Polynesian Spa are opened all day on Christmas. Thank goodness we didn't listen to her.
When we got to our room, the fridge in the room was out of order, there were stains on the bedsheets (even though they looked they have been washed, I can only hope), there was no refill to the toiletries after the first day, there was water dripping from the ceiling due to the air con.
I'm pretty sure it's not a 4 star hotel as advertised. Experience in North NZ tells us that outside of Auckland, motels provide better amenities and environment that 'hotels'.

Very good location, nice rooms and great service.
Within walking distance to Courtney Pl, Cuba St, Te Papa Museum, Lambton Quay. So convenient.

We had a relaxing 3nites stay to explore Wellington CBD. The staff were very friendly, helpful and service oriented. Also very knowledgeable in giving information to places of interest and dining options. Well timed Housekeeping was another plus factor. Would certainly return on further visits.
Restaurant Tip:
Lots of eateries along Courtney Pl, Cuba St and surroundings ranging from cafes, pub meals, middle eastern and asian restaurants and takeaways. Just 10-15mins stroll away.
