Sunset Bungalows Hotel, Port Vila

for our first 4 nights in vanuatu we stayed at the iririki island resort which was great then the next three nights we were booked into the sunset bungalows which is beside a lagoon about 10 minutes by bus from the towns centre. upon arriving we were told we had been upgraded to the honeymoon suite, which was almost twice the size of the other bungalows, the decor was ok, the staff very helpfull and friendly also. The restaurants menu was good as far as vanuatu standards go and prices matched those of the towns (prices for eating out in vanuatu are similar to sydney prices, although the quality of the food is seriously substandard). A word of warning though, every time, the day after eating at the restaurant (we had one dinner there, one lunch and a couple of breakfasts) we both felt as though we'd had had a bit of food poisoning, not sure if it was because of the food or not, but the breakfasts were especially bad. Overall we were pleased with our stay, it's ok for value for money for vanuatu standards and although we won't be staying there again, it's only because we wouldn't go back to vanuatu again, port villa anyway! Go to one of the other islands!! That said the locals are probably the friendliest people in the world and i don't think i've ever felt safer than anywhere else in the world!

This is a great place to stay, a short and fixed rate bus (taxi) ride from town. the rooms are great, all on the lagoon, ours had a deck over the water, and whole front wall folds back to make teh room and deck one space, it was very peaceful. Really nice touch with fresh flowers on teh bed and other places around the room. There was tea and coffee making in our room, and a minibar, but no other kitchen facility which would have been nice if we were staying longer, though some rooms did have a kitchen. The staff were fantastic, friendly and always looking to go the extra mile. The restuarant on site was good food, the service perhaps a bit slow, but hey we were on holiday. Another restaurant a short walk down the road is very good, so perfect to have a simple choice over a couple of nights. Relaxing by the pool was great in the shade of the trees, and even the 6.2 earthquake didn't interupt our stay, though it took a while for the water to stop splashing around in the pool. The resort is on one of the main roads out of town so at times it can be busy, but not so much that it is a pain. Overall we would reccoment this place for a short stay.
