A Hostel for Nightlife

Friendly staff, interaction with other guest and a bar to hang out
7
It was a nice stay as we have chance to interact with others guest in the bar downstairs. The Pan Circus signage can be more obvious as it is a bit hard to find when I was just directly opposite the road and unable to see the signage. Check in time is fixed as sometime staff will only arrive half hour before. Thus, try to store your luggage somewhere else. I have to bring my luggage to visit temple as I was unable to check in early. Overall, it is a cozy place and I have fun interacting with people from different parts of Japan and bar patronizer from other countries as well.

Nice location, friendly, clean and quirky hostel

Staff, location, atmosphere

Indie little hostel with a cool bar and good common room. With a bus station right out front, lots of convenience stores and sitting between the train station and main shopping area the location is great. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the dorm is big and kept very clean. Shower and bathroom good and there is a kitchen to prepare your own food. Be prepared if asking for directions/getting taxi as it isn't too well known by drivers.

Pleasant stay, cosy hostel, nice hosts

Friendly people, clean, homely
8.3
First time staying at a hostel/backpackers, the place was clean but somewhat unconventional, felt like a house rather than a hostel. It was a great place to meet people, but mostly locals (good chance to practice Japanese language skills). The hosts were really friendly and accommodating. Would definitely stay here again.

Poor choice

The staff and fellow guests were very friendly and helpful
5.7
The host was very friendly and accommodated my change of booking dates and generously refunded me. Other than the staff there is little to recommend this hostel. The one toilet for up to 16 guests opens directly into the lounge area and the hand basins are in the living area : no privacy at all. The one shower is downstairs out the back. The beds were extremely hard. There were very few electrical plugs. On the plus side it is not too far from attractions or transport, it is cheap and very clean.

Kamogawa River is awesome!

Hosts are nice, House is artistic, and the location is perfect.
9.7
It's a nice place indeed. But it's redecorated from an old house, so simply walking on the wooden floor makes noises. If you're not an easy sleeper, maybe think again, but other than that, everything's great!

Very cool hostel - Cheap great for backpackers.

Decoration - People - Atmosphere
9.3
Without sounding cliché the best way to describe this hostel would be 'cool'. It is a really cool place, the staff are cool, the decorations are cool and the overall mood is cool. I initially stayed here for 2 nights and was meant to be heading home but had all of my transport cancelled because of a Thypoon. I called up Pan and Circus pretty late and they said no dramas and made room for me for an extra night. While I was there I was given free onigiri for breakfast and curry for dinner. It's a cheap hostel, so don't expect The Ritz. But everything was more than clean and pleasant. The hostel is about a 5-10 min bus ride from Kyoto station and very close to lots of local attractions. A lovely walk along the riverside (when it's not overflowing). If you travel with an open mind and want to meet cool people and other travellers, Japanese and foreign, then I recommend Pan & Circus.
