Magical experience.

Location, foods and staff.
We had no idea that the Payagan covered such a large area , this was certainly not a problem. We were a little way away (within walking distance) from the lobby and restaurant area's but were able to make use of their pick up buggy service which was a great help as my wife was suffering from a leg problem. Our room had a wonderful view looking over the valley which could have been in any jungle with a wonderful selection of different flora and fauna and different bird life, we heard monkeys but didn't see any. We had a lovely private pool and seating area also our bathroom was outside. Menu choices were various and of a very high standard the staff were always helpful. The main pool area was very beautiful and easily within reach. We would certainly consider staying there again.

The Payogan

Good view, nice pool, good location
The staff are not good. When I want to get something, I ask them many times, and then they come to do it. When I ask to rent a car to go somewhere, they cheat me that they can get more money from me. They want me to go a bad temple which they always said it's better than Mother of temple, it's so suck. When I change another temple, thay charged me more money. However, it's a good hotel to stay in Ubub. Room is not really clear, but it's ok

Hidden gem

The staff were amazing, as was our private full size pool. The views and aspect from the Payogan were unbeatable
Very pleasant stay. The staff were amazing friendly and accommodating. They shuttle you around the property in a golf buggy and this was always prompt and arrived with a smiling driver. The villa was clean and spacious and our pool was fantastic. The resort is very spread out and we could go almost a whole day without seeing another guest

2 upgrades!

The upgrade to private villa
We wanted to spend a night in Ubud and decided to book one of the Agoda Secret Deals. We didn't know which one we'd get. Ended up with this one, with a 1 bedroom garden villa at a great price. When we arrived at the garden villa, we noticed the door was shaking rather loudly. It turned out that we were right next to laundry facilities just outside the hotel. It was clearly going to be a sleepless night. However the porter came back 10 minutes later and moved us to a semi-private villa with a shared pool. And since the other half of the villa was empty, the pool was all ours. We then got a call a few minutes later and he moved us to a private villa. WHAT? It was a great trip and experience.

Nice stay at the Payogan

the surrounded nature, spacious villa, friendly staff
We stayed with a young baby at the Payogan. Our stay was great. The staff was very caring of the customers. The hotel tried to keep an authentic Balinese style. The hotel is surrounded by Nature. It is a very quiet place to relax. Ubud town is not far away too. So this is a good compromise. We are looking forward to go back to this hotel.

Once grand dame slipping into decay

great location and most of the villas are spacious
Not good. It never was a 5 star resort, even when I first visited in mid 2013 it was at best a 4 star, but this trip, our third, it would have been a generous to call it a 3 star. Despite still advertising free wifi in rooms and cable TV there is no longer wifi in the rooms just the restaurant and even there it was too weak for us to check our email or Facebook accounts. During our first visit, the TV had BBC, CNN or CNBC news, Fox and ESPN sports and Fox and HBO movies. This time the only English language channel we could get was an Australia news channel and even that had a lousy picture. They did not mention when we booked that the place was undergoing major renovations. We only found out when we checked in and discovered the main lobby closed off. We were woken up at 8am the next morning by the construction work. We have stayed here twice before and thought,, despite the places air of fading glory, that it was still good value for money as the villas, at least the Pool Villas, are large and airy with great bathrooms and plenty of outdoor space including sun loungers, table and chairs, and a sun bale. But this time we booked a Garden Villa as it was rainy season and we knew the pool would be too cold to use. However despite the name the Garden Villas it turns out don’t have gardens or even an outside seating are When we got up for breakfast the first morning we discovered the main restaurant was also undergoing renovations and were redirected, after managing to hunt down some staff, to a temporary affair some considerable distance away at the other end of the grounds; more than a nuisance to reach in the rain when carrying umbrellas and computer bags. The food was very bad. The wifi was bad there too. We are small business owners so even on holiday we have to work for an hour or two every morning so wifi is essential. After two nights we had, had enough and braving the rain went in search of another hotel.

Room with a pool was fantastic, peaceful and beautiful
Loved it. Very quiet and peaceful. Our 3 yr old loved feeding the fish, the room with its own pool and the room to run around

Payogan Villa experience

Lovely valley views, quiet, friendly polite staff.
There are many stairs to navigate, many of them uneven and with no hand rails. When it rained the roof leaked. WiFi in public areas very difficult to get on and inconsistent signal. Villas are nice, location is a little remote, better to take shuttles into Ubud to select restaurants in there; better food and much cheaper.
