Dirty and Run Down

The staff were helpful and pleasant
We stayed one night only. The room was dirty and run down. Air conditioning was noisy and the only control was off or on.

The Pearl

the fantastic old decor including the lifts, the staff were very friendly and helpful and great water pressure in the shower, oh and a nice pool area.
It was satisfactory, nothing to rave about but for the price I also have no complaints, location is ok just a bit out of the way and taxi drivers there do not know the place but with hundreds of hotels etc that does not surprise me in this giant city. It has got a seven eleven virtually at the front door and an ATM across the road which the security guard watches you while you get cash out so it makes you feel much safer. Taxis are easy to get and because it is a bit off the beaten path you don't get hassled to buy everything from mobile phones to Viagra every two minutes so overall, not a bad place to stay but remember you get wat you pay for. Oh and I did speak to another patron who was staying several floors above mine and she said exactly what I will finish with, nice old place but a bit run down !

Do not stay at this place...

Pearl Manila Hotel
It was very unpleasant. 1. Checkin was at level 9. This is further complicated by #2. 2. Only 1 working elevator which everyone squeeze into. And this sole elevator has zero ventilation. And even if folks didn't select a particular floor, the lift attendant will randomly choose the floors for the elevator to stop at. 3. Air conditioning was non-existent. The broken down aircon was pushing out room temperature air. I would call it ventilator or air circulator. But not air conditioner. 4. Rooms are dinghy & dark with a mouldy stench 5. Hotel staff: they hired all the young kids fresh out from college who don't really know how to best give guidance. 6. Trying to hail a cab is close to impossible. The road just in front of the hotel is under construction works. Cabs will pass by the main road but not come by through the front of the hotel. And yet the staff will still only continue to stand at the front of the hotel where no cabs will pass by. I had to lug my luggage to the main road and hail a cab myself instead which was more efficient. I was glad it was a stopover for me for 1 night only. I would cringe if I had to stay another night. It was a most horrifying stay for me personally. Even a backpacker hostel would be much preferred vs staying here.

Hotel needs serious attention

Location is the only thing that comes to mind other than a fairly low price.
It was passable but will not stay here again. For about the same money the La Corona on Del Pilar is much better. This hotel could be decent if there was some investment put into it. No way it touches a 4 star hotel.
