Good Value

Location, standard, cleanliness
Speedy and friendly check-in. Modern revamp of hotel and central location. Room was small but clearly defined as 'matchbox' size on the website. Only downside was that I could here the glass bottles from the hotel being thrown into the wheely bins outside my bedroom window at night after midnight.

Good hotel if you get a good room

Location, staff friendliness, modern
I've stayed here before on a work trip and opted for the shoebox room due to the fact I'm wouldn't be spending much time there. The last time the room was comfortable, warm and quiet... Everything I need on a business trip. This time unfortunately I was on the ground floor in a windowless room that backed onto a backpackers pub. It was a Wednesday night stay and the pub was packed with screaming karaoke singers until 3am! The receptionist was king enough to give me ear plugs but that didn't drown out the music and what sounded like a hammer being slammed repeatedly on the wall behind my head (no idea what this was)! I had a 6am start the next day for an all day conference so when I finally fell asleep around 3.30 I was then abruptly wakened by the plumbing making a huge rackets because someone in another was running water. All in all I slept for around 2 hours... Not ideal. This is a good hotel but make sure you're on a room on the opposite side to the pub!

Great little hotel on CBD fringe

Location, Comfort, Free Wifi
We were very satisfied with our stay here. The staff were consistently professional. The room is bigger than the pictures. The bathroom can be very small to many caucasians especially the standing shower cubicle. Our room has a big window facing the elevated train tracks. Sound insulation is good when we can't hear the traffic outside. The continental breakfast included in our rate is sufficient enough although the breads and danish pastries can be stale on some days. We were happy with the same spread for one week. The cleaning of rooms can be rather odd. Our room wasn't serviced on our second day, so we checked with reception and was told that they only clean rooms every other day. We were fine with that too, but since our enquiry, our room was cleaned every day after. The other thing I wasn't comfortable with was their practice of making me sign a pre-authorization of A$100 as deposit if I'm not paying with cash. On our check-out, I was told there are no extra charges for my stay and they will refund A$100 back to my account. Since there's no extras to be charged, I asked that they return my signed authorization chit because my signature was on it. They told me they can't do that because they need it for accounting purposes. Just a heads-up for those who are uncomfortable with such practices. Overall, we are very happy with our week's stay and will stay again in the future.

Good location, but expect a 3 star hotel

Location, Location, Location
Location: For 100 dollars, u get a room near the convention centre, the nearby hotel is the Crowne Plaza, Grand Hotel, Great Southern Hotel, and Holiday Inn . For the price you pay for, its purely location. Room wise, 3 star hotel facilities, dun expect anymore than that. Most importantly, its in the walking distance to the Southern Cross Station ,bout 2-3 minutes uphill walk, the place u can start exploring. And in front of u nearby is the free tram . so reli strategic Food: Not included breakfast. U can add 15 dollars ( they offer a special rate) or 20 dollars standard rate. But come on, do urself a favour and explore the other better cafes in Melbourne Facilities Reli small room, and bathroom and basin is super small, but if u are just to sleep and nothing else, its worth the price. Included basic soap, lotion and shampoo. No slippers, shower caps, but do u reli need them? Got this weird Thai oil massage scent in the room when u first enter, but u will get used to it. The room is basic but clean Views: not the best. My room face the brick...opposite the room, but again, this is melbourne, i will be roaming arond at night at the southbank or along the rivers or elsewhere for the views rather than staying inside the room Overall: But for that price, i wun be complaining and enjoyed my stay there for the price i paid. If you want more service, bigger room, u can 2-3 the price and stay opposite at Grand Hotel or Holiday Inn or Crowne Plaza. If just a place to sleep, this room is worth the price. But caveat, at weekends or conferences/events, the price double to 180-200 do take note....not worth it

Value for money

Close to train and tram services, 24 hour reception and free WiFi
I really liked the hotel, staff were friendly. The rooms were nice and clean. I booked the shoebox room and it was a lot bigger than I was expecting. The hotel is close to Southern Cross Station and tram stops which made getting round the city very easy. The only problems were that the check in time was changed from 2 to 3 and I was not informed, it wasn't a big deal but 3 is a lot latter than most other places. Also the TV remote didn't work but again not a big deal. I would definitely stay again.
