I wouldn't stay here again
I stayed at Petit Palace in Bilbao for 4 nights recently, and unfortunately I couldn't get out of there soon enough. For the high price that they charged, the very central location and the pictures on-line, I was expecting so much more. The first impression of the first room I had was that it was dark and dingy; you couldn't see out of any of the Windows, as they were obscure, the room itself was old, dated and in need of repair; the wardrobe door wouldn't even stay closed, it slid open all the time due to the slanted floor. Not to mention the purple painted ceiling. The second room was marginally better, but in a very similar state; dirty splashes on the bathroom walls and glass screens, a complicated shower system that didn't work very well (my shower head kept falling down). The bathroom emmanated a mouldy smell of stagnant water, from the drain pipes and there were areas of damp on the bathroom walls from moisture problems; I had to keep the windows open over night to air the place out and to sleep in the room. The breakfast room was also very dated with old furniture, although the actual breakfast was quite good. Overall, I wouldn't pay to stay in this hotel again- they are desperately in need of a total renovation and re-opening.

Excellent location
Very well located;
Our stay at the Arana Bilbao was very disappointing and the hotel isn't anything like the pictures on the website. The room was not very clean and was dark and dingy. Even though we had requested a double/twin, for some reason we were given a triple room which meant there was little space. There were plumbing problems in the bathroom and the TV didn't work properly. It was also noisy - you could hear every movement from the floor above. On the plus side the hotel is very centrally located and it is on the edge of the old town. However, despite the excellent location, we would not stay there again and cannot recommend it in good faith. It is not at all good value for money.

Great hotel located right in casco viejo.
Location Decor Price
Really enjoyable, situated in the beautiful casco viejo, best part of the city, walking distance to all the good restaurants & bars. Loved the decor of the bidding using the old building mixed with a modern twist.

Good location
Location and nightlife
The hotel is right next to the old town with many choices of cafe and bars. Friendly service and room is reasonbly sized with smell of cigrette. A bit far from the bus stop to the airport.

Right in the middle of it
Fancy shower
The location of this hotel is fantastic. No parking at the hotel but there is paid underground parking nearby. The room was nice enough and tastefully decorated except for the dusty exercise bike in one corner! The bathroom was of fair size and housed one of those new age, fancy showers...if you're into that. The floors were noisy...we could hear the neighbours, above and to the sides of our room, stomping around all night (though I'm sure they were treading in a normal fashion). Im not usually one to nit pick with cleanliness but this place needed a bit more of it...the shower and bathroom screens hadnt been wiped and stickers half ripped off the door, leaving only the scum underneath (give it a wipe!) Small lobby and one rude young man at reception who continued taking social calls rather than allowing me to check out. It certainly wasn't awful but I'm glad I got it at a good price as I would have been disappointed if I had paid top dollar.

Despite reservation hotel sent us to another hotel
Ok hotel
Despite having had a reservation when we arrived at the reception we were told that we had to go to another hotel 100m away. This was a pain because we arrived tired and wanted to go straight to the hotel, rather than running from one to the next. Also, it gets noise around the hotel very early in the morning!
