Polwaththa Eco Lodges is run by a family with strong ties with the village and the villagers themselves. Truly sustainable tourism is practiced here where solar power is widely used, rain water is harvested, almost all employees are selected from the village, and all guests are encouraged to plant a tree before leaving. The lodges are clean and offer a magnificent view from the spacious balconies. The facilities exceed the expectation of an eco-lodge as there are tea/coffee-making facilities and hot/cold water in taps while most lodges have a room telephone and a safety deposit box. The space between the lodges is large and provides ample privacy and freedom to guests. The whole lodge is dressed in nature - green all around, making it a haven for birds and wild animals along with the owner's dogs, cats, and chickens for those who love pets. There are seven eco-lodges, a dormitory, and a camping site. Traditional cooking methods are used, and the rice and curry is probably the best in Sri Lanka. A demonstration kitchen provides you the opportunity to cook yourself. The entire staff is friendly, eager to help, and makes you feel at home. Being 700 meters above sea level and covered with trees, Polwaththa Eco Lodges boasts a perfect climate, leaving out the need for air conditioning. There are plenty of opportunities for cultural interaction with the community with the village walk and river bath conducted by local villagers being the best.
