Quite the authentic experience

No other tourist, almost the real experience.
The camp is rather remote, some 40km from Pokaran railway station. Pokaran is midway between Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. The nearest village, consisting of a few small huts, stands 1 km away. There are 2 other villages further away. To stay at this camp, one needs to make advance booking. Tents are rigged accordingly, each with an attached bathroom. Max number of tents are 6 with a double bed. A carpet is draped over the sandy ground. The landscape is covered with small dunes. Acacia trees provide much shade, however the thorns can pierce the sole of footwear's. Even though I was the only visitor that day, Mr Raj (owner), and Mr. Dhan Singh (manager) came to receive me. A cook and a security guard cum waiter was provided for my comfort. At the end of a camel ride which a couple of deer was spotted, the cook set up a table atop a dune and provided a plate of delicious pakora and masala tea. The peacefulness of the evening, the cooling breeze... made the day feels good as one viewed the deepening dusk giving way to myriads of stars in the deep velvet heaven. A camp fire was built and soon a vegetarian dinner was served. I did not go for the village visit nor the attend the folk dances. The muffled sound of the generator died off later in the night and serenity returned to the camp. In the distance, one may hear the faint barking of a dog. It was rather cold being December. There is hot water for shower though. In the morning, Mr. Raj took me for a short walk where another type of deer was spotted. I visited the kitchen which is covered with husks and straws. Birds lived among the straws. After breakfast, I left for Jaisalmer. Mr Raj showed me 6 chalets are being built and due for completion in Feb2013. Hence a choice of accommodation for the tourists.

Excellent service but remote location

Brilliant service, personal attention, comfortable tents
The desert safari camp is in a very remote place. From Pokhran main road one has to travel for about 40-45 kms into the villages to reach the place. So plan your travel accordingly. But once you reach the place you will be really thrilled by the authenticity of the camp. I could not see anything but sand dunes all around me and we were pretty lucky since we were the only tent that day. Got a great personal attention and service. Food is not simple and authentic cooked at the nearby kitchen. Tents were clean and comfortable. Provisions (toileteries) were minimal and to the need. There is nothing much to do but enjoy a camel ride and have a relaxed evening in the desert. It is a leisure place and I was particularly happy with the service. In short, simple clean place with great service. But thought the cost was a little higher
