Truly relaxing

A world-class spa
I visit geothermal waters all over the world, whether they are incorporated into spas or just bubbling up out of the earth. So naturally when my job took me to Graz, I decided to visit this nearby spa. It is easy to get there on the train/bus from Graz and once you get off the train, in the middle of a cornfield, there is a even a speaker-phone on the train platform that you can press to talk to the reception at the spa. Then they will come and fetch you (it is 2 km from the train platform.) Yes, the spa is really out in the countryside of Austria, in the midst of cornfields and woods. I started to relax immediately. I bought a half-pension plan which included the breakfast and dinner buffets. I am vegetarian, so I worried that it would not be so good from that point of view. I need not have worried. At dinner you received, in English or Italian, the menu with everything marked as to whether it was lactose-free, vegetarian, gluten-free, etc. The variety was astonishing. The buffet gets my absolute top points, 5 out of 5! For lunch I ate something simple in the cafeteria. That was just microwave food, but the buffet in the main restaurant was absolutely fantastic, the best I have ever had. There are so many pools that I didn't even find all of them the first day. You should book for least two days, so that you can get yourself properly oriented and aware of all the things to do and try. I didn't try any of the yogas, massages, salt rooms, but I did go for some long walks in the countryside and forest. They rent bikes or you can just walk. They give you an excellent map, and the paths are all clearly marked, so you can take walks from 4 to 37 km, it is up to you. The waters themselves are either 30, 36C or 38C. At night they light up the pools with fires. There are underwater speakers in some pools so that you can listen to relaxing, New Age-type piano clangs. In short, a total experience for all the senses.
Hotel Feature Tip: Take a book with you and go into the "Quiet Room". Sit down in one of the hammocks and read under the skylights designed by Hundertwasser.
