Like staying in a ghost hotel

no feature worth writing about
One of the worst hotel I have stayed in for the price I paid, much cheaper hotels with better facilities in the area. Looks as if the whole place has been neglected, usually only about 3 or 4 rooms out of 100 were being used. There was a bar, and massage parlour, but nothing was ever open. The only good thing was the staff were very helpful, changed rooms as we had a balcony but no furniture, so it was easier for them to move us to one that had some chairs.

Old, uncomfortable hotel in the city centre

When we booked the hotel, we saw great pictures with great, modern and bright rooms. When we arrived, we were apparantly the only guests and were really disappointed, found an old hotel with old rooms (warm water didnt work, but was fixed the next day, WiFi didnt work unlike in other hotels). There was nobody in the lobby, nobody at breakfast, nobody in the outside area, 3 cars parked outside. No matter what time we showed up at the receptionist, our key was handed out even without us telling him/her our room number. If I had booked a longer stay than 2 nights, I would have left the hotel for another hotel. Staff was friendly!

Nice bungalows behind hotel

Definitely the bungalows by the pond, very quiet & serene
I can't believe the bungalows (actually duplex bungalows, but no one was in the connecting one) were cheaper than the rooms in the main hotel. Nice little cottage, with air conditioning & the bathroom had a bathtub. Beautiful scenic landscaping around the pond. Low season, so not too many occupants, which was nice & quiet. Breakfast buffet was adequate & had eggs to order as you like them, pretty nice. Nice clean swimming pool. Only a 5 minute ride to & from the airport & a little closer to the bus station. Can rent motorbike from Hotel lobby & they offer tours to the Fish Cave, Temples, & long-neck hilltribe villages, but I didn't do the tours, so I don't know how much it costed. There are many tour shops located throughout the town if you want to compare prices.

Good location, fine pool

On the main road in town but quiet in the bungalows
rooks was easy to find as it was on the main street. we chose a bungalow and were happy to be facing a small pond with lots of greenery rather than the main hotel. it was spacious and quiet, except that the a/c was a bit noisy without earplugs. on our first afternoon at the nice pool we observed several groups of local people coming from the parking lot to the pool. upon questioning the management we were told it was a special children's group allowed to use the pool that day only. we had observed a couple of dozen adults, not children, and the front desk had said that the public was allowed to use the pool. breakfast was by menu and decent.

Rooks Holiday Resort

Nice entrance. Big, clean rooms. Good service.
Hotel itself was nice but it was deserted. We only saw 4 other guests the day we were there. There was only one other couple at breakfast and we had the whole swimming pool to ourselves. Maybe it was low season or maybe there are not many tourists that go to Mae Hong Son but it was sort of eerie that the hotel was so quiet.

Bad restaurant

quite good location at the main road
Check in was efficient, staff at the receiption very friendly and helpful. Room is a little bit old fashioned. Swimming Pool was closed one day. Breakfast / Restaurant was terrible. The tables were dirty, staff not helpful and unfriendly.

My Favorite Mae Hong Son Hotel

Pool. Staff.
This hotel has a great pool and a friendly staff. They really try to meet your needs. This time I stayed in the main hotel rather than the bungalows. I had a great room on the third floor -- non-smoking which is not always available in Thailand -- overlooking the pool. It was peaceful and pleasant.
