What a pleasant surprise- enjoyed the stay.

Clean and spacious. The view. Staff were very helpful
Thank you to all staff for making this experience a life time to remember. Everybody was friendly and the rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious. I will go there again on a unplanned visit and a visit for a few days as a break away. The hotel is one of the best memories for us all.

total disgust

Food was okay. view of the esplanade was great. decor around the hotel was good.
1st of all our booking was done and paid for I.e. double bed room at full price for 2. CHECK in is from 2pm. we arrived at 3pm and staff claim there is no manager on site. They advised they will make a plan. After a further hour the ordeal got worse. The horrific conditions follow. 1. Nobody assisted with bags. 2.waited 15 minutes for a lift. 3.room key tag had to be inserted more than five times before door opened. 4.There were 2 single beds pushed together with a gap between them. 5 .The air conditioning did not work and the service man had no way of fixing the ancient device!!! Nb.this was my only additional request other than the blanket. 6.no extra blanket as per my request. 7.the dstv channels sis not have sound. 8.witnessed staff shouting at patrons. 9.writing pad with no pen in room. 10. The hotel dedicated parking level was full ..had to park on the isolated 12th floor of the parking building were no guards were present at night. 11. Had to pay an additional R45 for parking. 12. No ashtray in a smoking room. 13. No hairdryer. 14. No directory or menu in room for any of the hotels services. 15. No manager or hotel owners details provided. It brings me great concern that the hotel manages itself and its patrons in such a horrid way. Under new ownership I hope it can be salvaged and saved from certain doom. As someone who travels vastly and frequently I rate it not more than 2 stars. (SAD FACE)

Friendly staff, Clean Rooms and Affordable
It was a perfect stay. My partner and I really had a wonderful time. next time we visit Durban again, we will definitely stay at The Royal Hotel again.

One night stay

The room was comfortable and the hotel is near the harbour. The view from our hotel window was good.
The room was comfortable but the food was very disappointing. The main dining room was closed and there was a very limited selection in the coffee shop. We asked for roast lamb but it was unavailable, and the wine we wanted was also not available. Our meal was mediocre, at best.

appalled at the dilapidated hotel
not pleasant at all. initially when i was assigned a room, the tv didn't work and it faced dull set of buildings, when i was moved to another room, the towel in the bathroom stank badly! the drainage of the shower was terrible as you pretty much swam in the water, the room wasn't cleaned at all on saturday 28th feb, after i even asked mr shezi at reception to arrange for it to be cleaned when i left around 12 midday. i came back to a dirty room. on sunday,i needed an iron, well, after waiting for about 45 minutes, the iron was finally brought as i was on my way out - with a demand of a r50 hiring fee! apparently the hotel only had one iron available! on saturday, whilst paying at the umvoti toll plaze, i was phoned and reminded that i had just left the dining hall after having breakfast-which was a complete error as i hadn't even had breakfast there. this hotel was fine in the past, but it has really gone down - a lot! when i reported all of these things, i was merely told "sorry" and then life went on. oh well, that's me and the royal hotel, no more in the future.

Durban Vibes

Excellent Room, Nice View and cousy beds
The stay was very restful. We spend most of the night partying at local clubs and had restful night afterwards. Please change your TVs to flat screens. The stuff was very helpful, the rooms were neat, and everything was perfect.

Unhappy with staff service

Comfortable, clean, centrally located
I requested an iron on the first day of checking in and I had to ask 3 times and eventually had to leave an hour later when it was evident that my request was not going to be honoured. There was only 1 lady working at reception and we had to wait for close to 30 minutes before checking in and the lady was very defensive when we complained about the long wait.
