BAD experience.
not good...on arrival was asked tp pay for our stay where all booking/payments were made thru agoda. explained to the receptionist who kept insisting that nothing was paid!!!luckily another receptionist was there to check and sort it out.....next, that same guy asked us to pay fora deposit as a security for the room...gave my partner credit card but he told us the card is declined.....very very stupid....why did he have to charge us $100 deposit??? can he not use the credit card as a way to secure the room just like other hotels?? anyway at the end i paid the $100 deposit in order for us to get our room......next as we arrived in the morning, we left all our luggages with them to store, then we returned at night time were the room was ready then realised all our luggages were still in their storage!!!!very bad bad service.....we had to carry all of them and walk their 10mns corridor walk, which consisted of using 2 different elevators in order to get to our room!! moreover, their internet is soooooo SLOwwwwwwwww......our advise to all of you who is reading this is to check other people reviews before you decide to book this hotel. oh last thing, dont be foul by the outside look of the hotel which is very deceiving.

New exterior and old interior

Old interior, no ventilator in the bathroom. The receptionists are unfriendly, and no interaction with guests!

Wonderful surprise

The View, the view, the view
We stayed for 1 night (Pinewood Lodge), went to Arrowtown for 2 nights. Before departing for Arrowtown I cancelled our reservation and booked a "Budget Room" for one night. Then in Arrowtown when I started reading the reviews in TA, I was horrified. We arrived at 11 AM. The reception staff was very kind and helpful. He helped us storing our little luggage and told us the room will be ready by 2 PM. We went to have lunch, came back scared at around 1 PM. This time the reception. He told us our room was ready and gave us all sorts of other information and gave us two keys for Room . Wonderful service. Great, I thought. It is NOT a basement room and it is accessible by elevator. At 6th floor when we opened the room, I was dumbfounded. It is a Lake Front room. If I wrote the review right then and there, I had to give it a 5 star but now after a few hours I am more objective. I have no idea how we got this room with great view of the lake and the mountains but here are the cons. It is an old and tired room but clean. It has NO ELECTRICAL outlet to plug in the electronics. I had to take the water kettle out, put that in the bathroom and use that outlet for my electronics. Heating, as usual, like all over NZ, is inadequate, One wall heater that can not possibly keep the room with non-double pane, leaky windows and doors warm enough. The glass doors to the common deck overlooking the lake need cleaning and so does the deck itself. Nothing is disgusting but it is Rydges. They should pay attention to details. From 1 to 4 PM internet (wifi) worked fine. After 4 PM as usual NZ: it kept on dropping. TV has a few channels and no real International News Chanel . It is a small room and there is also no real wardrobe. However, I booked a budget room. hence I am a happy camper. Our room does not include breakfast and I am too lazy to check the sauna out. Location is great..

NIce hotel. NOT 4 STARS

location, views
It is a nice hotel within a 8 mins walk to the village centre. The rooms are comfortable but plain. Breakfast is not too good.

Was very cold in the room I stayed in. When I informed staff nothing was done until I went down to the front desk. Somebody delivered an oil column heater after this, but was informed I couldn't then use the room heater. New heater was only marginally better.ended up with a bad cold. Not a nice experience.

Everything is perfect except....

hotel room, location and location
The view from our room was amazing, so picture perfect which was a major bonus! The room condition itself was pretty good for a 3-star hotel, can totally compete with 4-star hotels. This premise was also located very close to downtown, about 10 minute walk. Everything was great except for the water from the shower. Didn't really have a good range of spray. Also, the staff in the early morning shift of our second day stay didn't really have the initiative nor did he show any willingness to assist us. Such a setback. But putting that aside, this hotel is perfect if you're staying in queenstown for short-term.
