I think for an older hotel in need of a refurb Tradewinds does the best it can. Rooms are a little outdated and looking a bit tired, but this is reflected in the pricing and in all other aspects the hotel lives up to its reputation.

Stay was excellent, short walk to restaurants, coast, nice gardens, big room, very enjoyable. Disappointed that parking was limited give resort size, took 30min to get a park, small TV in large room.

Our stay has totally put me off Rydges Hotels

The good thing was the comfortable bed
4.7
Our stay was terrible. First we were given a room that as soon as you walked in an odour hit you. We found the cause of the odour when we pulled the couch out from the wall (the small wall where the airconditioner was and must've been dripping down. The carpet was wet and had black mould so it wasn't a once off occuracne We rang reception and they sent up a cleaner- we said can you also organise another room as we had to sit out on the balcony as the smell was so over powering. Within 30 minutes we were in a new room that didn't smell and were thankful. We stayed 2 nights and then found mould within the carpet around the fridge in the second room aswell. The bath towels were nothing like I have ever seen before. They were so thin, were grayish in colour and looked at least 10 years old. The cleanliness of the toliet buttons were something else- so disgusting. The room was very dated. I was so disappointed because my husband I were looking for a romantic getaway, somewhere nice on the esplanade and as the hotel said it was 4star, I thought it would be great. It honestly ruined our mini break. I have since read other reviews on the hotel mentioning the black mould on the carpets (wish I had seen these before I booked). The hotel had replied to some of these comments, stating that this can happen in tropical north Queensland with the humidity. I am sorry, but my husband and I have both loved in tropical North Queensland all our lives and we have never encounted black mould in our carpets. As we were checking out of the hotel, I over heard the couple in front of me (also checking out after staying just one night). When they pulled the sheets down on their bed- there were black insects/bugs all in the sheets. I have never complained about a hotel or ever written a review, but I really wanted to let people know of our terrible experience. I am shocked that this hotel is 4 star hotel - maybe it's only because of it's location? I can't see what else would be 4star about.

Fantastic view & location.

Good food for breakfast, great location/view from balcony and lovely staff.
7.7
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights for our 10th wedding anniversary and we were given a room on the first floor although I requested for high floor. Thanks to the ants in our bed that's why we were relocated to the 4th floor. Though, it would be nice to be offered complimentary drinks for that ant incident. We appreciated the help of the reception staff as they did their best to find us another room a few minutes later. I had to book a day trip to green island and the staff who was dealing it was very nice and booked us immediately. The highlights of our stay would be the view of the Trinity Bay from the balcony of our hotel room, great location at the Esplanade and delicious food for breakfast. It would be great to have a coffee machine at their restaurant where we can make our own cappuccino, latte or hot choco. Good size of bathroom but it needs refurbishment as it looked really old. Toilet roll holders were dusty and one of them was broken. Their in-room safe needed an upgrade, it would be great to have a digital lock. We requested for a King Bed but they gave us 2 Double Beds. That was ok as one of the beds was comfortable enough but the pillows were not.
