Over promised under delivered

Location, air conditioning, prompt service when needed
The pictures do not accurately reflect the conditions of the hotel. Particularly when it comes to the pool. It is not a very nice pool or seating area - we didn't go in the water or sit around the pool because it simply was not very appealing. The free breakfast buffet was average, I've had worse but I've definitely had better. You'd be able to find something to fill you up. The rooms were okay. Mostly clean, not a very comfortable bed though. The location isn't bad. About a 15 minute walk to the main centre of Saigon. Easy to get a taxi anywhere you need, or lots of restaurants and shops in the area. Service was good. Staff were friendly and helpful if we needed anything. One thing we thought was funny was the safe in the room - they aren't attached to anything so sure you can lock your stuff up but a small child could easily walk away with the whole safe. Overall it wasn't horrible but it was disappointing compared to the photos and for the price I think you can find something much nicer.

What I think

staff / cleanliness /quiet
Good stay at the price but... Agoda you better talk to them directly. Deals made with Agoda received less such as they told me no water bottle supplied because booked through Agoda .They prefer booking with them. It's a minor issue but still make me uncomfortable because everywhere-else they supply that cheap commodity. I can buy off the street easily.

overrated, overpaid, overrun

location, english and maybe location again
never tried the agoda secret deal, thought it will be something interesting. since the reviews were not spectacular but decent. 7+, if i remember correctly bad move. would advise travllers to avoid using the secret deal, as i suspect this is how agoda sells their lousy rooms. location is not too bad, as it is in D1. close to most of the touristy stuff. check in was average, recpt could speak quite good english. however, this is where all the good things end. the hotel is old and there is a musky smell. got a room at the end of the corridor on the second floo0r, which faced the main road. bad choice. the traffic starts around 5am, lotsa honking and shouting. aircon controller doesnt work. it is fixed at 19deg. but i can live with that. the room size is bigger than i expected. the corridors and the walls are quite thin. you can hear your neighbours talking in the corridor. which happened to us till like 1am in the morning. there are alot more choices for this price. claimed to be 3stars, but i would give it max 1 star.

Better Than Expected

I enjoyed my stay. The room was small but very clean. The breakfast buffet had a very good selection and all food was fresh.

Better places to stay

the staff was friendly
The Sabah is a three star hotel catering to foreign tourist. The only problem is that it is not a 3 star hotel. It has a big lobby. but thats it. The rooms are funky. You can't put your finger on it, but the energy of the hotel is all wrong. It says that it is in District One, it is.. You have to walk down a street, turn right onto an alley that has some cool restaurants, make a left at the busy street. Turn right at "Etudes" and walk and cross the park. Its a good 10-15 minutes, not a problem, Enjoyed the walk. But after checking a few rooms in the Backpacker area of District One,...the rooms were far cheaper, perhaps cleaner,,,and just felt better to be there. The Sabah isn't bad, its not a boutique, its just a little off.
