Nice people but small room and no wifi in room

The hot tub, the community kitchen, the value
Really nice people and some nice touches like a hot tub you can reserve for 30 min. Compared to some other hostels/guest houses we stayed at in NZ, the room we had was small and the shower was very basic (small and low water pressure). The room was also a bit dirty as it had some cobwebs on the wall. The wifi signal did not reach our room and the community house closed at 9pm, so we would have needed to go outside in the freezing cold to access wifi past 9pm. We needed to do some research for our trip so that was inconvenient for us. Just wanted to share some of the drawbacks. Fine value overall.

Great, friendly staff

The evening receptionist, Annie was the most congenial, helpful service person. hot chocolate pudding with ice cream was scrumptious.
O.k. thought it was overpriced for what you got and the rooms were tiny. No Internet in room. Still it was a good place for 1 night, coming off ferry. not many choices in Picton.

more a guesthouse/homeztay than a hostel

homey environment, clean, peaceful location
Highly recommended for those staying a night in picton. Friendly owner with excellent facility. The room is small but those whom stayed there were friendly. Bathrooms were quite clean for the crowd that was there.

Sequoia Lodge Backpackers

Free wifi, Complimentary chocolate pudding with ice cream, friendliness on the manager.
For a backpacker establishment it exceeded my expectations, rooms where comfortable and clean. The kitchen and dinning area was large enough to cater for for everyone wanting to cook along with a good range of cooking equipment and utensils, the outside sitting area was delightful. Manager was friendly and helpful.
