Gorgeous hotel to stay in Chiang Mai.It is a bit away from the old city so you need to secure a taxi to get around. Perfect place for relaxation and rest, as the gardens, the pool, and the rooms are just beautiful. The staff was extremely helpful and went out of their way to make you feel welcome. Mrs. Pongsri, the owner, was wonderful in providing tips and ideas for things to do. She made you feel like a VIP! Overall, great place to stay!

Staying in the Shanghai Mansion is like taking a trip back to Shanghai of the 1920's. The staff is very helpful, arranging for taxis, giving directions, attending to any needs that you may have. Breakfast is served in the beautiful Cotton Bar and Restaurant. You can return to the restaurant for a very inexpensive, tasty lunch or dinner and follow that with a late night drink listening to live jazz.
Nightlife Tip: There is a live jazz band every night in the Cotton Bar on the third floor. 'Very nice with good, inexpensive drinks

Very beautiful, great location

very close to shopping district, very beautiful place

Amazingly beautiful hotel. I fell in love with the water garden, the use of chinese aestethics gives it a very unique feel. It is also very quiet and peaceful. Location wise it's perfect for a shopping trip though traffic in the area can be a problem.

Could be a sightseeing spot itself...

Very nice decoration; dim sum at breakfast

the decoration both in the lobby and in the room is very delicate and pleasing to the eye, we take lots of pictures within the hotel. however, these old-shanghai style things could be quite frightening at night...very much like a haunted house esp. if your room's light are of yellow colour=p btw, the bed's a little bit shaky
Restaurant Tip: Super great seafood restaurant just round the corner

Usually stay in Siam, Sukumvit or Silom but chose a night in Chinatown due to closeness to Hua Lumphong train station for early morning train. Loved it! Hotel in perfect location, can walk (without luggage) to train (with luggage about 50-60 baht in taxi) and it's at the beginning of Chinatown area. Didn't know there was so much to explore in Chinatown. Obviously great food and good, relatively hassle free markets. Very busy area but not full of western tourists. Great to be able to have dim sum (yum cha) for dinner! Hotel was a little oasis. So nice to be in smaller establishment, quiet rooms, lovely, unique decor. Wonderfully comfortable, firm bed. Small but functional bathroom, with sink outside (handy if travelling with partner). Lovely little extra was complimentary cold cans of coke and Oreos in mini bar, as well as the standard water; particularly nice after an overnight flight, little cold caffeine to get me out and exploring. Windows only look out on common fish tank area so wouldn't suggest having open but for a couple of nights where you don't need to look out to a view of the city, this was perfect and I'll return.
Shopping Tip: Chinatown markets cheaper and less hassling than other more tourist orientated markets. Walk around and check out all the menus before selecting a restaurant as there are many to choose from; go with the ones with most customers.

Great location but small rooms

very near to seafood restaurants in chinatown

Concept is good, but feel that the overall design of the room/hotel makes the place looks worn-out and cheap. Service is also not very good, they didnt make up my rooms during my stay there.

I like Shanghai Mansion hotel regarding the architecture. This hotel is decorated as chinese style, there're many beautiful chinese lanterns that looks gorgious.
Hotel Feature Tip: If you have a special occassion, I'd like to recommend this nice place for you to visit .

Amazing Decor and lovely inclusions

Oriental decor, free mini bar and wi fi, great breakfast

This hotel is in very busy Chinatown but is peaceful and relaxed inside. Hotel service strives hard to please and make you feel welcome. Room size is good and breakfast tasty - cocktails in the afternoon are nice My wife was intrigued with the bold colour scheme and Chinese trimmings. Would stay here again - have just paid for my oldest son to try it.
Restaurant Tip: Local street food fabulous

Sanctuary in the centre of china town.

Clean, cool, organised, comfortable beds, big bath, near the best food stalls in Bangkok.
9.3
Great all round stay and good way to start off a 3 week tour of Thailand. Helpful staff, just watch the concierge as he's in cahoots with e tuk tuk drivers outside. Would stay there again for sure. Street outside smells bad but it's a small price to pay for the fresh fish it serves at night. Crab in chilli was the best dish I've had throughout my stay in Thailand.
