Excellence and attention to detail

functionality of room, excellent facilities, clean and sandy and gorgeous beach
My stay was one of the best I have experienced, and I travel fairly frequently. This is a perfect vacation for all types of travelers, including if you have young kids. The room was perfect, with twin beds, and a day bed on the side which the staff had converted from the sofa to a bed for my two kids. I thought the lay out of the room was very practical, functional and still with a feel of luxury. The South China Sea is really quite gorgeous with white soft sand, calm gentle waters, and the clean stretch of beach adorned by bright blue umbrellas at decent distance from each other meant every one there could experience a 'private beach', but with all the water sporting facilities. The pool was also lovely with a water slide that the kids loved. Staff was welcoming and even though the kids were rowdy in the pool, the lifeguard never yelled at them , and just kept a watchful eye. The food, and buffet was excellent. All manners of cuisine, from malaysian/japanese/ continental and even a daily chocolate fountain for the kids. We were able to experience white water rafting, jungle treks (mild), the orangutans, the mari mari cultural village as tour operators are easily accessible at the resort. I felt the Italian restaurant was slightly overrated (and over priced) but ts really hard to find much fault with this establishment. Its no wonder we keep coming back to the Shang, no matter which country

Great for a family weekend

Location, comfort and facilities
We really enjoyed our three nights at the Shangri-La Rasa Ria. The room was comfortable and the four of us (two children 8&6) could stay in the same room. The facilities were great and we took full advantage of the kayaks and the catamarans. I could run around the golf course (before 7am but it's hot so I'd do that anyway). Breakfasts and dinner were good too and the staff all really friendly. All of this does have a price but you get what you pay for.

Nice & fun but below aaverage food, not very clean

Pool with slide, staff, Indian restaurant Naan
Beautiful secluded location on a nice beach (great unless you are looking for city and nightlife). The resort could be quite a bit cleaner and some things are simply not fixed. Apart from Naan all other food is below Shangri-La standard and especially below the price you pay (plan trips to the city ahead for dinner). Staff is super nice and friendly but perhaps lack motivation to match Shangri-La expectations.

wonderful stay in Borneo!

The Orrangutan sanctuary, the Teppanyaki restaurant and the wonderful rooms
We had a wonderful four night stay at the Shangri-La's Rasa Ria resort. The Teppanyaki restaurant was a class evening of wonderful food and entertainment, and we all had a thoroughly enjoyable time. Without a doubt, the rooms in the Ocean Wing resort are exceptional, and the outdoor bath overlooking the sea made for a perfect setting - especially in the evening with the rain thundering down around us - an amazing way to experience the outskirts of the rain forest! The Orangutan sanctuary will delight visitors of all ages, and was particularly good at explaining the conservation work that goes behind the reintergration of the animals. this resort would be perfect for couples or families - it is suited well to both, and very well laid out so as to maximise the experience for each group thank you all!

Nice stay

Food, pool, staff
Had a good stay. Hotel is very nice, breakfast was very good every day. We stayed in the ocean wing, it actually isn't much closer to the beach than the garden wing. The resort is well equipped, good pools and facilities. Not much else in the area of the hotel except for golf course and the orangutan centre.
