Heritage gem

This small beautifully restored property is tucked away in a residential area, about 15 mins. wak from the touristy Lakes Area. The hotel has spacious rooms.
Serice is was provided was overall very good. The building with its beautiful inner couryard provided me a quite real sense of how it must have been when a highranking family lived in this paletal house. I liked the quiet neighbourhood and had nearly every day lovely early morning exercises chosing differet loop routes around one or more lake. The major weakness is the limited and repetitative breakfast meny. A hotel at this price level and ranking should have more choice and a small catering menue since there is not serving of other meals. Guests should also expect a generous bowl with fresh fruit in the courtyard besides the coffe machine.

An excellent staff

Staff, staff, staff
It is in a terrible location. The taxi driver from the airport had a time finding it. The room intends to style itself in an old fashioned way but it fails to meet the standard of modern comfort. The room lock is a padlock on the outside. You can only secure yourself with a latch on the inside at night, which is a stupid idea. The shower is too high on the wall. The water outlet of the bathtub doesn't work properly. The towels are old. Breakfast is basic. The orange juice is diluted with water. But I have to say that the all female (mostly very young) staff is excellent. They did everything they could to rescue the hotel. They are the only redeeming feature of the over-self-rated and over-priced establishment.

Authentic Chinese House

Authentic, Beautifully Preserved and Friendly Hotel Staffs
It's a great experience for anyone who wanted to know the real Chinese living. The entire surrounding is keep as original as a century ago. The hotel staff are helpful and friendly. One bad experience I had was I went to a wrong place base on the telephone number printed in Agoda confirmation letter.

2nd Time. 3rd Will come

Room design, near to food, two subway stations
This is the 2nd time that I have stayed in this hotel. I have tried 3 different rooms. No disappointment. I always love the breakfast they served although you will see them repeated if you stay long enough. Service is good. Near to two different subway lines. Near to food places and not too quiet to walk

Pretty hotel, pity about the smoke

Quaint place, nice bathroom and nearish to attractions
We liked the place at first but soon found that they allowed people to smoke in the tiny courtyard that leads to all the rooms. We spent the rest of our stay choking on thick cigarette smoke. Such a pity as it was otherwise lovely with nice staff.

Beautifully restored building in the hutong. More like a museum than a hotel.
Fabulous. The hotel was a serene place of calm with attentive and charming staff. The room was lovely - quiet and peaceful. Location gray - easy to walk to the lake or equally to Ghost St.

A very beautiful traditional Chinese hotel.

the architecture, the serenity, the amenities
For anyone who is looking to experience the essence of old China this is the place to stay. This hotel was recommended to me by a woman who works for CCTV and lives in Beijing. As soon as Lihua and I stepped from the cab I knew immediately it was going to be a wonderful place to stay. Walking through the large entrance door and into the lobby I was wowed by the hotels beauty. This hotel is a traditional wealthy family's home that has been totally renovated while preserving it's unique interior ornamentation. All the rooms have amenities you you expect in 2014. The hotel I first class in everyway and decorated in its public area with museum quality artwork and artifacts. It is a beautiful peaceful oasis amid the clamor of Beijing. Located in a very nice and clean hutong it is good for exploring your surroundings. There is no lack of restaurants in close proximity. If you choose this hotel make sure you have good directions in Chinese to get there since it is not a place familiar to most taxi drivers. When I and Lihua return to Beijing we will stay there again.

Traditional experience in a modern way

Stylish, spacious, nice architecture
It's good but I don't really like the idea setting a suite below the street level. The air quality was not very good. (Actually the whole city is polluted) Breakfast somewhat made me down. It was simple and humble. I love the idea of boutique hotel in Hutong, yet the hotel hasn't reached the "Boutique" level, as far as I concern.

Nice hotel. Might not get the room type booked.

Quiet Location, Traditional Architecture, well laid out rooms.
This hotel is within walking distance of the famous Black Lakes district pubs. Most attractions in Beijing required walking to the nearest main road to hail a taxi. The staff speaks English, but not fluently. When we arrived we had a different room that was reserved. We had booked the room with the whirlpool tub, but when we arrived we were placed in another room. While the new room was an 'upgrade' to one that was more expensive, it didn't have the whirlpool tub and had less space. We were told the room we booked was not available as another guest was still in it. The only compensation was a verbal 'sorry'. Other than not getting the room we had booked, we enjoyed our stay at the hotel.

Just OK for 5 stars hotel

location, decoration, quiet surroundings
If you claim to be a 5 stars hotel, then you should pay more attention to details. What 5 starts hotel does not have at least complimentary water? Fresh orange juice will be nice as well. Besides some small things, the overall experience was really nice but a little bite overpriced for what you get.
