Charming place
Loved this hotel! Decent location, and excellent services, facilities, and staff. They have a shadow puppet show 3 times a week, which was very nice. I would love to stay in this hotel again.

Nice hotel in Hutong area
If you want to stay in a Hutong area, this is the hotel to go. Its a renovated hutong, with a great mix of a modern and traditional Chinese look. Its full of natural light and offers great and inexpensive food. The 1st night we stayed in a small room with a traditional Chinese bed, very small window, small bathroom, the room looked nothing like the photos we saw online when making the reservation. The next night the hotel moved us to another room, which was beautiful, had 3 windows, much more specious, bigger bed, looked just like the photos. The english of the staff is not good at all. We booked an acrobatics show, which was great. But we asked for the cheapest tickets when we saw a range of pricing options. When we went to the theatre we basically sat on the front row, so I’m not sure what the most expensive tickets were for, which was confusing to us. We also booked a tour to the wall which we definitely would not recommend. We were debating which area of the wall to go and decided on Mutianyu when we saw there was an option to go down a slide, when you reached the top. We asked the hotel about this and they confirmed that it was an option. The next day we went on the tour, the english of the guide was not good at all, he talked about the history and told some stories of the wall for about 15-20 minutes, which we did not get any of it, because we were at the back of a big bus with 42 people and he did not use a microphone nor had the decency to walk around the bus or speak from the middle so we all got to listen to what he said. When we got to the wall he gave us some instructions of where we could walk, told us we would meet at 2pm in a restaurant, made us buy tickets to the cable car (I tried to ask about the slide, but it was all caos, none of the 40 poeple in the tour understood where they had to go or what to do). And we didn’t see the guide again until it was lunch time. We learned nothing about the wall and my inner child was very disappointed that it didn

very unique hotel
I like the traditional, yet very modern decor. Staffs are very nice and helpful. Easy access to transportations. Even the taxi can drive through the Hutong, drop and pick you up in front of the hotel.

Cute boutique hotel
staff concept surrounding
Interesting little place set in the hutongs. Good to stay if you like to walk around the lake and to the other hutongs. Bad if you need to take taxis. Loved the shadow show and the friendly and helpful staff. Small enough to make you feel like part of the family there.

Most cultural hotel I have ever stayed in
Shadow art plays, nice ambiance and setting. courteous and helpful staff
We were lucky to be here when it was the Chinese Valentine's Day season (7th day of the 7th lunar month) and we got to enjoy 3 shadow art plays which were incredibly amazing. It was a great decision to have chose Shichahai Shadow Art Boutique Hotel as our accommodation during our stay in Beijing as the cultural aspect made it meaningful. The breakfast was not bad considering the small scale of the hotel. The staff which I have encountered were all courteous and always eager to lend a helping hand or offer more information for assistance. The only downside was the location which was a dreadful walk with our luggage from the metro station. When we checked in, it was about 11+pm and the alleys were dark. Nonetheless, it was a great stay.

It is located near the center of Beijing.
Clean, good breakfast and service.
The room was small for 4 star hotel. Plumbing fixtures were not working well and water pressure was too low in our bathroom. The services and free breakfast were great. Room was kept very clean.

Overall is good except the location
Friendly staffs, clean and comfortable room
Room is clean but the smell from kitchen will get inside the room in the morning. Taxi not willing to drive until doorstep of the hotel because the road is too small. Good thing is hotel have few bicycles where you can borrow and ride to Houhai and other places.
