Excellent hotel

Attentive service, very nice property, excellent location

This hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff's customer service was excellent and the property is very well maintained. Our room was impeccably clean and well maintained. The fact that the property is located in a quiet corner of the old town is an added bonus. Excellent recommendations from the front desk for restaurants and activities.

Simply Amazing

Design, Staff and Location

The Sofitel Santa Clara is simply an amazing hotel. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful, the rooms are incredibly nice and comfortable, and the hotel is stunning. The old part of the hotel that is centered around a courtyard is truly beautiful and great to sit in for a drink or a coffee. The Library Bar is also a wonderful place to go for drinks at night. I love this hotel and will surely come back!

A great hotel makes all the difference.

the santa clara is a class act by any standards. the rooms range from comfortably average to fantastic. when getting a room try to book something on the 5th floor and or try to get upgraded or purchase out right a suite. the suites are magnificent on every level. the hotel has a resident celebrity named mateo. ask for him when you get there, you will be surprised and charmed by his presence. the hotel has two restaurants, one upscale (restaurante 1621) the other rather normal (el claustro). both are good at what they do and should be experienced. there is a fantastic buffet style setup at el claustro but for breakfast it is a little overpriced. if are not into big breakfast, better to go a la carte. restaurante 1621 is a must for one dinner. i say one dinner because cartagena is filled with charming restaurants and it would be criminal not to get out and enjoy. the in house bar: el coro is wonderful. order a shark attack if you are in for something spicy. they often have live music that often attracts locals. great place to start or finish and evening. they do close at around 12:00 but check because these times vary. the spa here is well done and deserves it's high rating. i got a fantastic massage that ended up being too fantastic as i passed out for 1/2 of it. just a few last points: pool, get there early to steak out your real-estate or it could be gone during high season. order any of there fruity lemonades. if you like coconut, that one is to die for. use the concierge however if booking things like horse rides do it yourself and negotiate hardball. gringos pay extra in most parts of the world, this is no exception and the hotel does tend to make things more pricy then necessary. obviously, this only applies if you care. and lastly if you plan on returning. tip the butlers nicely, because with there help, you can get much more then you pay for ;) trust me on this one. happy travels.

Really beautiful

Historic building

The hotel is really as advertised: a beautifully restored ancient convent, with an incredibly pleasant inner cloister, full of tropical plants and birds, including a very colorful tucano. The restaurant and the swimming pool are great too, and the staff is very efficient and helpful. I would certainly give full votes, and go there again if I am in Cartagena.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: Cartagena is so fascinating; there are lot of excellent restaurants, and the historic city feels very safe to walk.

The beds are huge and super comfortable

We really enjoyed our stay as part of our honeymoon. Very romantic, great service... The only thing we didn't like was the breakfast. It was expensive and not very good (for my taste, but my husband liked it)
Restaurant Tip: Have dinner at the hotel restaurant and reserve a table outside. They light candles all over and it is super romantic and delicious.
