The best beach in Sihanoukville, but...

Amazing beach, excellent food and very friendly staff
This is our third, and I am afraid, our last stay at Sokha in Sihanoukville. The reason we will be reluctant to return is that the owners have taken a different approach than what we want from a beach resort. Having newly opened a huge (and ugly) Casino building as well as a large conference center. Risk the unique beach resort feeling and calm is wiped away. We were here in Nov-15 when it was non-peak season, so for us it was fine. Also, they have built a completely new hotel building about 5 min walk from the original building. This is advertised as "Lakeside by Sokha" but it was not really operational. Next to the new hotel complex, they have built some 60+ water chalet/bungalows ("Moha Mohori by Sokha") located on stilts in a "lake" but the water is all brown looking more like a swamp and it looked and sounded like a construction site. Maintenance of the original hotel seem not to have been able to keep up with its 5 stars. The beachfront walkway and other pathways have not really been taken care of, though, they are still functional. However, Champa restaurant, lobby and original pool area are well maintained along with meticulous daily cleaning of the beach. The 10+ year old original rooms are spacious but have seen their best days, more like 3-4 stars. The beachfront The Deck/Lemongrass restaurants are very nicely renovated and serves some seriously good food. Also, the new Spa is great. Very good treatments and therapists. They have happy hour rates 9 am - 3 pm. Hats off to all the friendly staff who are doing a great job under what must be not so easy circumstances. Bottom line - provided that the Casino crowd don't take over completely - I think a room in the old building is the best option (i.e. not the Lakeside and not Moha Mohori). Although a bit worn room, it is funtional and convenient due to breakfast, pool, beach access. You get a fantastic private beach, a nice pool area, good restaurants and very friendly service.

Fading facility recovered by hotel staffs

Location, Beach and class of guests
It's been several visits to Sokha Beach Resort with or without my family. New buildings are built and the property seems to be filling but time and time again I am noticing aging facility especially in the main lodging. I would naturally expect cool, crispy and dry linens for my hotel room but it wasn't so. My overall impression about the room would be "soggy" for the linens, room and especially bathroom. "Sokha" has the local name value, but you will know why it has name value ONLY IN THIS LOCALE. It has its strengths such as private beach, but seems to be that it's losing focus - perhaps focusing too much on that new casino in the property.

I think this hotel is good but the food is not goo

1. View 2. Swimming pool 3. Private beach
Good for children to swim, they are very enjoyable with playing at the pool and the beach, but there are a lot of jellyfish in the ocean, we can not swim happily. The food is not meet what we expect and very expensive. I just wanted to try diner buffet but cannot find something to eat. What we like in Sokha beach resort is good swimming place where children can enjoy there play time and very convenient to access to the beach. The view and comfort environment.

Most terrible experience for a whole Asia

Totally overrated, heavily overpriced, with zero staff performance hotel. It is definitely not a 5* hotel with five-star prices, which are 5-10 times higher usual Cambodia rates. That could be ok if hotel can offer five star service. First of all - there is no free transfer to/from airport. Rooms are not clean. They don't doing wet floor cleaning. There was web and mold in the bathroom for all five days we stayed at hotel. Bathroom and toilet facilities barely working. Shower was leaking, without any water pressure. When we enter the room there was only one ancient looking robe, one spoon and one fork. Staff are entering the room few times a day to check whether you use your minibar, no matter if you put DND sign on your door. There were not towels at the pool! Actually they were, but you need to go to reception and take special card for towels. One card - one towel. When I asked why, staff replied me that is for hotel convenience, and to prevent guests from stealing pool towels! What kind of hotel considering their guests as thiefs? All food at breakfasts is not fresh enough, no variety, no tasty. Coffee and tea is cold and have terrible taste. Beach is full of ants. Not enough sunbeds. 80% of them aren't shaded from the sun. Staff aren't cleaning sunbeds neither from sand nor from rain. There aren't staff activity on the beach. Towels... You shuold puck up your towels from the pool, when go to the beach, when pick them up by yourself, and return to pick up you cards! What the heck? Why should I pay 5-10 times Cambodian's hotel rate for absence od service? I never met such kind of neglection to the guests in a whole South East Asia! This hotel humiliates their guests, and their staff, prices and lack of service are just outrageous! During check-out staff asked "how is your stay at hotel" - I replied "terrible!", she even did not have any emotions or questions on such guest reply, so they just don't care!

A good four star hotel

The staff, the grounds and swimming pool, and the food
My wife and myself had a pleasant week at the Sokha, the rooms are big and well appointed if not a bit tied. Our stay would have been a lot better if the air conditioning had of worked correctly. The beach erea and the pool areas are fantastic, the gardens are picturest and well maintained. The owners of this resort have spent a fortune building a new casino at this resort, and they really need to invest some of their money into upgrading their rooms and facilities, the resorts staff are their greatest asset they are really caring and attentive and turned our stay form a o/k stay into a good stay. The only negative about the staff is at times you wil have upto eight of them in the bar and towel area watching you in and around the pool. A comment needs to be added about the stupid towel cards, each person is issued with one towel card which entitles you to the use of one pool towel, you can not get an extra towel unless you pay $20, and if you loose your card it will cost you $20. We had a friend visit for the day it was o/k for him to eat at the resort, spend money at the casino but as soon as we asked for an extra towel so that he could take a swim the charge was going to be $20. We had a good stay at this resort it is over priced for what you receive and a little to far from town, but the staff make up for this.

Overpriced resort situated out of town

I would not stay here again. The resort is somewhat remote and requires tuktuk to every place. Mosquitoes were bad, breakfast was substandard for hotel charging this much. Buffet has poor choice for a 5 star hotel, and seating is some distance away. A single egg chef can have up to 10 guests in a queue waiting for an egg dish. Not what I would call a quality hotel. Room was satisfactory
