i had a week coinciding with the un sustainability conference. the hotel is in an old and pretty run-down part of centro but the area does have a very stimulating character once you get used to it. the cost was very high for what you get but this was probably due to supply and demand because of the huge number in town for the un. staff were helpful and friendly.
Travel tip:
bus to and from the airport stops at cinematica ,a short walk to the hotel and where the metro to copacobana and epanema area is the sensible choice to avoid the traffic congestion.

Strictly a budget guests' dream spot

Made the booking at the last minute. Initial inspection illustrates that this property is not in the best location, due to it being on a back street and the surrounding poverty. Upon closer review though, it is very close to two important Rio landmarks, The Arcos da Lapa and the Escadaria Selaron. Hotel staff went above and beyond to be helpful. I stayed on the 3rd floor and there is no elevator so the 48 steps to the top was a bit tedious, but we all need good exercise. Room was basic, secure and neat. Decent Wi-fi connection. Neighborhood offered several bars. About a three block walk to Gloria metro station. Back and forth as I pleased all hours and never felt threatened.

Très bon emplacement mais mauvais hébergement
L'emplacement, très proche de "Archos de Lappa" et du métro "Gloria", la chambre spacieuse, la grande douche, le Wifi gratuit qui fonctionne bien, le coffre

Le prix des chambres dans cet hôtel est raisonnable, ce qui devient rare à Rio. On peut aussi tolérer la rue inquiétante avec ses ordures.
Mais le bruit du chauffe-eau à partir de 4H du matin est important (claquements, suivi par un fort bruit électrique). Si la chambre au dessus est occupée, la vôtre tremblera à chaque pas. L'évacuation du WC du dessus se fait parfois dans votre salle de bain, c'est très gênant quand c'est la "grosse commission". Le dessous du lit n'a jamais été nettoyé, ne perdez rien !
Le personnel était parfois agréable, et parfois a refusé d'essayer de nous comprendre, que ce soit en Anglais ou en Portugais.
Il nous a interdit subitement l'accès à la chambre, parce qu'il voulait tout d'un coup avoir le paiement de 2 nuits, alors qu'il avait pourtant le numéro de notre carte bleue. Il a fallu négocier 15 mn pour avoir le droit de chercher de l'argent dans la chambre !
Il a fallu demander 3 fois pour avoir des couvertures, et il a été impossible de faire changer les piles du coffre qui affichait "LoBatt" tout le temps. Heureusement, il ne s'est pas bloqué.
Nightlife Tip:
Allez à 100 m nvous promener au "Archos de Lappa", ou juste à coté "Rua de Lappa". Il y a plein de bar et de restaurants
