All round good value hotel
Central and great breakfast buffet
9.3
Was so nice to be shown to a nice room with great shower early after flying through the night.(Thanks)
The location is great as many buses pass one end of road and the metro, the other to get to all the sights.
Staff were really nice and capable too.
The breakfast buffet was really quite something, the selection on offer really was superb. Set us up nicely for days out sight seeing.

good location for any business affairs.. close to the domestic airport .. The staff needs more training to serve hosts in a better way.. Information is not unified among the staff.

Hotel Regina, Rio de Janeiro
I had a decent-sized air-conditioned room, although with no view to speak of. Free wi-fi is a definite bonus, although there were a few glitches - see 'cons'.
Good location near Catete metro station and a few minutes' walk from Flamengo beach, which has excellent views of Sugar Loaf Mountain and is quieter than the more famous beaches at Copacabana and Ipanema.
7.7
A comfortable hotel, a little more upmarket than I would normally choose, but Rio seems an expensive city and I was unable to get a booking anywhere cheaper.
The room was spacious and the air-conditioning was very welcome. Although there were a few glitches, the free wi-fi service generally worked well and I was glad not to be charged a ridiculous premium for internet access as in some hotels I have stayed at.
Reception seemed fairly helpful and generally spoke fair English.
The area around the hotel is OK although not particularly lively or attractive. The nearby Museo da Republica and adjacent park are definitely exceptions to this, as is Flamengo beach. I generally felt safe walking around the area at night.
Catete metro station is very close by, and it's reasonably easy to get a cab in the street outside.
It's a small thing, but the lifts seemed excruciatingly slow. There are two, but one was often out of action for some reason during my stay.
Would I stay there again? Yes. I won't say I'd insist on staying there if I visit Rio again, but I certainly wouldn't mind doing so.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Museo da Republica and the adjacent park are very close to the hotel and well worth a visit. An ideal way to start your sightseeing on arrival without having to start making your way all over the city after the stress of flying in.
