This is a relaxed and friendly tourist-class hotel in the pretty tree-dotted streets around Largo do Arouche in the city's Centro Historico. Located in the Se district, close to Republic Square, the San Michel and its sister hotel San Raphael offer cheerful, accessible accommodation with views of Arouche Park. Refurbished in 2001, rooms have fresh bright decor and ample living space, while the ground floor Arouche Beer Sports Bar is a popular spot with locals who gather for live music and chopp (Brazilian draught beer). To get around the city, guests can make use of the Republic metro station. It's only two stops to the main drag of Paulista and one to Park Anhangabau. A lovely green boulevard of fountains and sculptures that leads to the Teatro Municipal.
