Falsely advertised features but issues resolved

Good location, friendly and accommodating management
My girlfriend and I stayed during Esala Perahera. I didn't feel we got anywhere near our money's worth but I suppose prices are jacked up everywhere during that time. There was no A/C in our room. We were told one of the rooms had A/C and someone else was in it. The staff told us we could move into that room once they had left. We did that on the last of our 3 night stay. Secondly, there is no Wi-Fi. They have one 3G dongle that they lend. On the first day we arrived someone else was using it. My girlfriend and I needed it as we work remotely from our laptops. The second and third days we got access to the dongle and swapped between us. The staff told me the owner would be visiting at some point and that I should speak to him about these issues. I did, and I suggested that the A/C was worth 500 rupees/night, likewise with the Wi-Fi and asked the owner for a partial refund as compensation. As we missed out on A/C 2 of the 3 nights and missed out on internet access 1 of the 3 nights then for the remaining 2 we only had half-capacity (i.e. one of us using it at a time), we negotiated a 1,750 rupee refund. The owner was well spoken (English), patient and obviously intelligent. I told him he should not advertise features that don't exist! On the positive side, the staff (the one guy who looks after the hotel) are attentive and friendly. The location is pretty good, a 10 minute walk from the main action in Kandy. it's at the top of a rather steep hill so expect to do some hiking, or just take a cheap tuk-tuk. A Lankan even gave us a free lift in his car once. The hotel itself is decent enough, clean, large rooms and private bathrooms. There's a nice little garden out the back where you can watch squirrels running around. The breakfast is good, with the typical Western and Sri Lankan options. It's difficult to review this hotel. We had a really good stay but I feel it's overpriced, especially for a 1.5 star hotel.

Lovely guest house near the city center

On the serounding hills - 1 km from the city center, good value for money.
good value for money. this guest house is situated on the hill slope, much like 99% of kandy accommodation, which promise you the needed quite yet a few minutes with a tuk tuk to the city and lake. kandy is a lovely town (especially the lake and surrounding hills). went there for the last day of the buddhist parade (early august. basic large bed room with a sealing fan (kandy is usually mild/cool at night so actually the fan is better during sleeping).liked the service with a smile. good breakfast. there wasn't an event in the house, so very quiet at night (ask the owner before your stay). would recommend to arrive during day light in order to find the place (ask to follow the same direction to topaz hotel and when you reach the square on top (with a statue in the middle) continue on the road and look for number "42" on the right hand side. the drivers usually confuse with swiss residents hotel which is much further is in the common lounge.

Good location, variable quality

The room we booked was stated as having aircon and cable tv...there was no aircon and not even a tv! The man who looked after the place and served breakfast was grumpy and a bit scary. On our night there a wedding party kept us awake until 1.30am We were invited to join the buffet as the hotel restaurant was closed, and then presented unexpectedly with a bill the following morning.

Soggiorno tra il penoso e il ridicolo

Non me ne viene in mente nessuna
