Far from the madding crowd

Oasis from the hustle & bustle of Ubud. Relaxing pools. Tour round owners collection
As mentioned above we found the hotel to be an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Ubud. Friends who visited the area 10 years and more ago characterized Ubud as a sleepy backwater. That, unfortunately, no longer seems to be the case and anyone wanting a relaxing time needs to be away from the town itself. This hotel was far enough away to give the relaxing atmosphere but near enough to easily access the town if needed.

Overpriced and quite old.

Swimming pool, free shuttles to ubud
Turned up and found out our room was double booked on our final night here (unfortunately my boyfriends birthday).. Ended up staying for the final night at Azadi Retreat which I highly recommend! so serene and peaceful in the middle of rice fields. The actual Dutch owner himself didn't apologise or reassure us of any compensation... Until I had to ask the assistant manager for any compensation where we finally got a free dinner at the extremely overpriced restraunt (where all the food is listed in USD dollars instead of Indonesian). The facilities themselves were okay but we stayed in the cottage which had nice art items but was a pretty old cottage. Also the hotel is spread out in individual cottages and breakfast is on one side of the hotel (5 minute walk from our cottage). Just was peculiar that the Dutch owner knew we were double booked didn't apologise for the inconvenience once and was generally quite awkward talking to us.. There are free shuttles to town. However the Indonesian stuff were quite helpful and friendly!

Work of Art

The staff; the originality; the art
Tanah Merah is more a work of art than a resort. Created in beautiful countryside, each room is different and some are spectacular. Peter, the Damish owner, is extremely hospitable and open. " The Collection" is worth the visits alone. Shuttles on demand to town and a $5 taxi back. If you are an artist and can afford it, it should be on your radar.

Idyllic setting and a unique hotel

Environment, staff and uniqueness
This hotel really is unique with traditional Bali accommodation in a splendid setting. Breakfast looking towards forest beyond a stream in beautifully landscaped grounds. The staff, including the dentist owner, who actually treats patients in his on - site surgery, we're exceptionally friendly and helpful in all arrangements, from airport transfers to guided tours and taxi to the Ubud. I just wish we had the time to see the art gallery and explore the site more fully.

Amazing Stay in Jungle paradise

location, quality of rooms/resort, service
Tanah Merah was the best place we stayed while we were in Bali. From the amazing villa we stayed in, to the beautiful pools over looking the rivers everything about this place was incredible. The art gallery on site was beautiful and gave a great history of Bali. The owner and his staff were truly great people and helped make our stay and experience of Ubud something my wife and I will never forget.

Bali paradise

View, breakfast, staff
Awesome stay here, our group was 2 rooms and 2 couples. This is a very unique hotel that is laid back and relaxed. Great staff, great breakfast. The restaurant was good but a little pricey. The wifi could be improved but a fair sacrifice since you're staying on the side of a mountain outside of town. TIP: load up on snacks and beers for your fridge in the room.

great stay

view. staff. room
The location is on a valley with a river in the middle. Had a great view. The room was clean and well maintained. Food is good. Staff was all friendly and helpfull. There is free shuttle to ubud town about 15 mins away. There were monkies outside of the room 2 of the 4 mornings.
