hotel accommodation that gives you feeling of home
spacious rooms, two toilets and location walking distance to town
We enjoyed the stay at Te Puni Village, we checked in late and on a public holiday date hence no hotel staff but contractors. The downside is no instructions how to access wifi and we think this is basic facilities. Nothing much to watch on TV as weak signals on some channels and not enough toilet rolls and no one to contact as office was unmanned. Also lack of instructions where to find the front desk and where to park our car, would be better if they have this info on the website. In summary the accommodation is a good one esp travelling in a group. Quiet and clean place, would definitely stay again. Thanks to staff at Te Puni Village

poor staying
free breakfast/ free Wi-Fi/ friendly staff
The bed wasn't being made perfectly clean.. Still can see some dots and hairs on the sheet cover. And the carpet wasn't clean and smell bad as well.. Overall, staying here is not my option next time due to the cost is dear and unclean room. But I would say the uni staff is friendly anyway.

Free breakfast, clean,
backpacker type accommodation, good for a group where you just need somewhere to sleep. Noisy.

Large room but not recommended as parking problem
big room, high security elevator, quite
This is actually a student room of a university which they rented to outsiders during summer holiday. The room is spacious but a bit expensive as they did not provide TV, kettle & mugs although they provided loose tea & coffee in the room. Need to go down to their pantry to get hot water. Additionally, the did not allocate parking space for guest. We can park between 6pm-8am and between 8am-6pm need to move the car as the parking area are for the university staff.

Nice place to stay, but warning - on a steep slope
kitchen appliances available, friendly and helpful assistance, free wifi available (but only in certain areas)
My biggest problem was that I didn't expect Te Puni to be situated on such a steep slope (aka. part of the mountainside). The quickest way to get straight to the main part of Wellington was by walking down about 100 steps, then a large 45 degree bit of road - the first time I got lost on the way down, but was fine after that. Google Maps is misleading in that it doesn't really show you the topography - so it looks central to things, but in reality they are difficult to reach by foot. If you are driving everywhere this is less of a problem, however if you are relying on walking and using public transport, it's a lot harder. I'd consider myself relatively fit, but I found it a struggle and huge inconvenience, especially after a long day, being new/unfamiliar with the area, and having to walk such a distance into the city heart to find a decent meal; then walk back up again. Onto the positives though - the (student?) staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, the room was clean enough and very spacious, and the kitchen appliances made everything a lot easier. This is normally student accommodation, however I didn't find this an issue and saw a lot of other travellers around the place during my stay. Though I checked in late evening, my room wasn't ready for me, though they'd just had a lot of people stay for the World Cup – but the staff member who assisted me was very helpful in sorting things out. One con is that there are three entrances to the buildings (each on a different level/floor) - not a huge issue but confusing when meeting cab/shuttle companies for pickups. I couldn't access the wifi from my room on the 10th floor, but in the dining room and surrounding area it's easy, fast, and free. My room got overly warm at times, and I found the bed and pillows a bit uncomfortable, but that may just be me. All that said, a decent budget option and good location if you have access to a car and don't need to rely on walking as your main mode of transport.

adequate... much better than I imagined... basic
surprisingly pleasant... it is student accommodation not being utilised during the holiday times.. rooms are exactly that ... room and a bed. shared bathroom/shower facilities could have been cleaner, but were comparable to "Gym" facilities... and it was very cheap... as well as being the only accommodation available in Wellington due to the mexico football game.
