Nice Hotel / under renovation.

All rooms face the sea / Clean beach / Fairly big rooms.
Temple Tree Resort and Spa Nice hotel with a large swimming pool. The restaurant is airy. The food is expensive. Room is nice. Nice view of the beach and sea. No shower gel or box of tissue paper. TV channels is limited. All the 3 lady receptionists are nice with nice PR skills. A couple of surly staff which we won't bother to spoil the stay. There are red ants in the room throughout the stay even though housekeeping tried to clean properly. Got bitten a couple of times. The water in shower room does not drain towards the scupper but collect at a corner. The beach and sea are nice. Not crowded like Negombo. The hotel is by the main road. If the vehicles sounded their horns, it can be heard in the room. At this time, the 2nd and 3rd floor is under renovation. For nice Italian food, try Eatalian, a new cosy restaurant 100m away and south from the hotel on the main road.

Potential, but missed the mark

The breakfast, the pool, the beach
We stayed at 6 different places in Sri Lanka during our stay and this was the most disappointing. We had booked it as our last 5 days of our honeymoon and from the pictures, we were very excited. We didn't realise that the hotel had been closed due to renovations and had in fact only re-opened 2 days before we arrived. They definitely weren't ready to re-open. The pictures don't look like the website, as that is what the hotel will look like when they have finished. They advertise huge baths that overlook the beach in the suite rooms, which I thought was so romantic and one of the main reasons I chose this place. They have a huge problem with water pressure and hot water, so after having to ask them twice to fix our hot water, it takes one hour to half fill the bath. Our room wasn't cleaned on the first day and their communal bathrooms are very dirty. The first night, in the restaurant, they gave us 2 menus. My husband and my menu had completely different prices in it. They didn't have any of the wine in stock or diet coke. The chef was kind enough to cook us a Sri Lankan curry on 2 nights, which were very good. The hotel has potential, but it was a let down and they should never have reopened as the whole place just seems unfinished.

Simple fantastic!

The location, its privacy, and its room.
I would recommend staying at Temple Spa to any of my family and friends. The view and sound of the ocean and pristine white beach visible right from our balcony was an amazingly relaxing experience. The bathtub and shower are the best: very romantic. The room is spotlessly clean. The food at the downstairs restaurant is very good and inexpensive. This is not a hotel for those seeking night life and excitement but for those who seek to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
