Not worth the money

Nice people in the staff

The resort consists of two areas. One has a well kept garden, the other looks like i dump! We paid quite a lot for our bungalow and certainly never expected to be dowgraded to the dump! Fortunately we were upgraded roomwise, do we Got a bigger bungalow / but still we had to ask for a fan, bedsheets etc. The bathroom, closets etc were all pretty dirty, so No Thanks! There are many better places around!

very basic accomadation where everything is extra

Own stand alone bungalow with tiny verandah and hammock
4.7
Please note we stayed here during peak season where the prices inflate to double or treble the norm In this homestays defense, most of the "bungalows"in the long beach area were similar setup and price. And the the beach is just a stones throw away - with lots of eateries on the beach We got a double bed with rockhard baby pillows and 1 duvet( no sheet), 1 overhead light, an overhead fan with 1 setting that worked(fast and noisy), bar fridge and no facility for making tea and coffee,(were told to ask for hot water at the resteraunt but they sent as away as too busy!) Ensuite bathroom , Vietnamese style - you either had warm water or decent water pressure, you could not have both! Free breakfast up the road, included 1 dish and 1 drink - if you ordered a second cup of tea you paid for it! We felt we were a bother to the staff - so we did not ask for anything much. We did need to use the hotel safe as none in the room, and the locked cupboard offered had no key! When we went to check out at 12, the cleaning staff came in before we had finished packing - because they had to clean the room for the next customer! I guess we had had such great service and rooms in the rest of Vietnam that we were a little put off by our last stay - but overall we made the best of the situation and enjoyed Phu Quoc regardless
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: Phu Quoc is a work in progress - there is construction going on everywhere! I guess aiming to be like Cat Ba Is one day - if you stay on the main drag - Long beach, you will get tourist food, shopping and prices. If you can, hire a scooter and go see the eastern side of the Is - its still unspoilt (up market resorts along here). We were told to go to beaches on the western side of the Is and found the shore to be quite dirty.

rustic charm, but still too rustic

garden setting, close to the beach, friendly staff
5.3
this place was charming from the outside, but also rough around the edges. the garden setting was lovely, the staff friendly and location close to the beach. however, the facilities were awful. the toilet frequently didn't flush, the smell came up from the septic tank from time to time, hot water suffered outages, etc. the bungalow interiors need simple maintenance: mosquito screens were ripped, the tv, just plain didn't work, the shower head holder was missing a key screw to keep it in place. basic facilities were also missing: wardrobe for clothes, for example, so we had to keep our clothes on top of the spare bed!
Travel tip: Stay there only if you can get a really good rate or elsewhere is full.
