Very nice boutique hotel with character

Room, View, Staff
A hotel with a great feeling and excellent staff. Great room and view and very comfortable. There was a problem with the Aircon which was attended to. The food was the only let down, it wasn't as good as other less expensive places we have been to in Sri Lanka

Beautiful setting, comfortable hotel

Atmosphere, room, location
We enjoyed the beautiful setting and serene atmosphere of the Elephant Stables. The only downside was the very limited meal choices. We felt it was a little expensive given the level of meal service, but the boutique atmosphere was stellar and the extra touches like making hand phones available were very special and helpful. The 5-star rating is deserved but the meal choices need improvement, they lean very heavily to Western food which seems unreasonable.

Awesome Elephant Stables

the food, the staff, the view
The best place we stayed in, in Sri Lanka, I don't write hotel reviews generally, but felt I had to given the brilliant experience we had here. Everything was to a very high standard and staff were attentive without being over familiar

Wonderful Boutique Hotel

Beautiful decor. Comfortable rooms. Wonderful staff.
This was my favourite hotel of all those we stayed in during our three week holiday in Sri Lanka. It was a peaceful haven away from the hustle and bustle of Kandy. The whole hotel is beautiful furnished with interesting pieces of artwork around. Lovely pool area and great staff. I particularly must mention Dilini who was a wonderful hostess!! I wish we could have stayed longer in this gem of a hotel and hope to return one day.

Kandy Boutique

The location on a hilltop with great views, the small size and the attentiveness of the staff.
This is a perfect boutique hotel located on a beautiful hilltop with views on both sides. It is newly redone in exquisite style, serves excellent food, and has a very attentive staff. The gardens are immaculately kept and there is a lovely pool. All in all, a place I would highly recommend.

Boutique accommodation at its best

Style, Staff, Serenity
The Elephant Stables is a beautiful boutique hotel, tucked away in the area surrounding Kandy - about 7km out of the main town. A small place with maybe 10 rooms, all tastefully decorated and comfortably homelike. Beautiful gardens and pool area. Limited menu choices - but don't let that put you off! The curry option for evening meal brings 10 sumptuous curries, generously portioned and each utterly delicious! washed down with an ice cold glass of Lion beer, sitting out in the garden - as close to perfect as you could hope for. A hotel not to be passed by - spoil yourself and stay more than one night ; ) the hotel management have a tuk tuk, a buggy and a vintage car - all of which can be used (for a price) to shuttle you too and from the various tourist sites in Kandy. Getting a pick up fro the train station is a blessing - the train station wasn't too chaotic - but it is always nice to not have to worry about finding your own way.

Good view, but expensive and a hike into town

1. Nice pool and view of the hills 2. Large rooms 3. Good breakfast
I would not recommend this hotel to other guests with young children. The public areas (other than around the pool) are not designed for young children. Also we were charged 2,500 LKR for breakfast for 2 children - very expensive for Sri Lanka. It is not that close to central Kandy - about a 400 LKR tuk-tuk ride and up a very narrow steep road. There is nothing you can walk to from the hotel. The hotel is pretty but I was disappointed by the suite. It did not have a bath in the bathroom. Despite the huge size of the room, there was no desk for sitting at or lounge to relax on (there were three small chairs to watch TV from). The rooms could be much more comfortable for the price charged.
