This small wonderful hotel continues to amaze

The staff, the room, the location
We have stayed here seven times before. With each visit I am pleased to report that the hotel maintains it's wonderful atmosphere. Everything is great but the very best is the staff,s friendly efficient and over the top helpful service. It is remarkable in thus day that such people exist and sincerely wish a traveler to have a superior experience and a completely positive impression and memory of their city and country.

Too modern design, but excellent location

Proximity to the Forbidden City, nearby restaurants, helpful staff
very good, but the hypermodern design didn't always work. Our bed was in a corner so only accessible from the foot, the bathroom counter sloped down toward the shower.

Feeling like an emperor

Service, cleanliness , price
Meeting all expectations, wonderful rooftop, very clean rooms, minibar refilled every day, cookies at 6.30 pm. Staff speaks impeccable English and is there to assist for any request. Bit far from subway but hotel will call a taxi when needed. Very nice rooftop restaurant and at a 5 minutes walk the famous SIJIMINFU restaurant , if you call before there is o waiting time. Walking distance is Jinshan Parc for a marvelous view over the forbidden city. I give it a 10 .

Clean hotel, attentive staff

Clean, attentive staff, next to shopping area
We enjoyed our stay but wouldn't stay there again. The room was clean and the staff attentive but the food (room service) was beyond terrible, the fridge in the room wasn't working (we had to tore good away) and the staff admitted that it was the same in all the rooms.

Good location, great breakfast

Location, breakfast, room comfort
Check-in was fine and staff spoke a reasonable level of English, which was helpful. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the room was well equipped with a wide-screen TV, a sofa and loads of bathroom products (L'Occitane shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, a packaged comb, toothbrush, razor and shower cap. When I used these they were always replaced the next day). There were some downsides though. Although I liked the look of the rooms from photos on this website, actually staying in a bright orange room was a bit of an assault on the senses after a heavy day's sightseeing. I also requested a non-smoking room but as soon as I walked in I could smell that someone had smoked there. Some of the furnishings had seen better days - there were some small scratches on the cupboards and in the bathroom, and as other comments have said, the floor boards were *really* squeaky. The shower was amazing, hot water was always available and there's a choice of a normal shower head or a 'rain' shower with the water coming out of the ceiling. I thought the breakfast was great, a lot of choices (fruit, pastries, different types of bread, Chinese noodles & salad, baked beans and freshly made omelettes, hash browns, and sometimes pesto pasta would make an appearance too!) However it was served on the 4th floor and there's no lift, so this would be no good if you have mobility issues. The location was good, about a 15 minute walk from the nearest metro station, and around 20 minutes to Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City. Overall I'd recommend the Emperor if you want a well-located, 3-4 star hotel with a comfortable room, but not if you're looking for 5 star luxury.
