Lovely room, friendly staff but overpriced

View, central location, friendly staff
Way overpriced but the view from the room of the Furth River was awesome. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Elegant gem in the centre of Edinburgh

Staff, position, value for money
Spent 2 nights at the George. Had to change rooms after the first night as the first was very noisy. However the staff were very obliging and apologetic and found us another room straight away. The hotel is in an excellent position - easy walking distance of the station, old town, shops and restaurants. Would definitely stay there again.

No long term parking or restaurant

Location and rooftop bar
Parking was 1km away in a shopping mall carpark with no lift and stairwell smelling of urine. Restaurant was closed for renovations without being told at time of reservation. Reception staff were cold and unhelpful. Rooftop bar was nice and some of the staff were too. Good choice if you are on a bus tour I suppose, providing you get a better price than we did. If you are self-driving go elsewhere.

Not as good as it was

There was a fire evacuation first thing on Thursday morning. We are yet to see a member of staff let alone a fire marshall guiding the guests. Some of the elderly guests were confused as to what to do.When we complained at reception about such a sham they weren't interested in the slightest. We had breakfast on the first morning and cancelled it for the second. We paid for two nights room only, there's better places to stay in Edinburgh for that kind of money. Such a disappointment!
