Classic Hotel

Location, friendly staff and classic feel.
Comfortable, classic which also mean old style. Location very strategic, which is at Jalan Gaya. I called the reception for requesting additional stuff, they delivered it within 10 minutes. Efficient and friendly staff.

Full of history but standard rooms need attention

Location, historical importance, proximity to airport
The Jesselton is a classic piece of KK history and retains some of the colonial charm compared to some of the newer, more modern hotels. We stayed for two nights on either end of our trip- the first was in a standard room (they call it 'superior') and the second we were upgraded to a 'deluxe'. The superior room was in dire need of some love and attention - very outdated decor and curtains and bedding etc. felt very tired. The room itself was fairly small and we were given two single beds, despite having clearly booked a double. Tired after our flights, we just pushed them together and mentioned it at check-out. It wasn't exactly a disaster, just slightly annoying. The view looked out on to a carpark so wasn't the most pleasant. The deluxe room was much nicer. Larger, brighter and fresher - I would definitely recommend going for this option if you can. The window looks out to the street and you can just about make out the sunset. All in all, the location is good. Close to the waterfront and no more than 10 mins from the markets and some great bars and restauruants even closer than that. The staff were slightly shy but friendly. Be warned, parking can be very difficult to find in the area. In summary, if you don't want to pay huge amounts for another generic Western-style hotel, the Jesselton is nice.

Delightful staff.

The staff was an absolute delight. They make you feel so at home and we are like old friends. Location was great and room was very comfortable.
I will definately go back to this hotel should I visit KK again. Other than location, the biggest plus would be the staff. They are always smiling, helpful and most importantly, they make you feel at home.

OK if on budget

Cleanliness however there was a cockroach in the room
We stayed in room 302 and 2 nights we had to ring maintenance because the toilet wouldn't flush properly. No intiative on hotel management to allocate us to a different room.

old fashioned standards in a trendy city

Nora, the rooms, the staff
Complete pleasure from start to finish. The restaurant is run by an indipendant person (English ) and was nowhere near as good. But then Old Town coffee is right next door. Forgetting the overpriced and generally poor restaurant, this was one of the very best hotels I have ever stayed in. I cannot wait to go back.
