good value for money and a very friendly family

friendly owners, good value for money, cheap motorbike rentals
Rooms are basic and clean, unfortunately ours only had a window towards the patio, so we had to leave it closed most of the time. The owner, LAm, and his family are very friendly and helpful. Lam speaks English, communication with the rest of the family is a bit more difficult but we always got our problems solved. since you need a motorbike (which can be rented from Lam for 150k a day, most rentals in town were around 200k) to get to the most beautiful beaches on the island (sao beach and mango beach f.e.), i dont think its worth to spend a lot of money on accomodation closer to the beach. the house is on the outskirts of town but with the motorbike, exploring the island and getting around is very easy. Definitely recommend this place!

Warm atmosphere, ok budget accommodation

Very friendly family ownership, new building, slightly outside the bustle of town
The Lam Homestay was a very pleasant place to stay. It's owned by a family, who are all very kind and helpful. Ram, the owner, will chat with you, and he made me feel like he was my long-lost uncle. Really solid guy. There's a communal table outside where you can chat with other guests. Rooms are basic, but there are ample TV channels. On one occasion there was no power for a few hours, and the wifi was out for the better part of a day, but you should be out experiencing the island anyway. Hot water always worked, but it took over a minute to get hot. Overall, I would recommend it to anyone going to Phu Quoc on a budget, who is willing to ride a motorbike there. On foot I wouldn't recommend it: too far from the beach.

The man

The owner is the niciest man on the island! If you like to drive motorbike it's a good place, since the center is too far to walk. Calm and nice.

Guesthouse can be improved

owner's friendliness and hospitability
It was good, Mr Lam was very nice and hospitable. I really enjoyed the new year's eve dinner. However, I think the homestay cleanliness can still be improved. I stayed there four nights and they never cleaned the room, nor changed the linens. The place is also far from the beach, although I also enjoyed seeing their village.

Wonderful Family - Pleasant Stay

Location is mid-island so easy access to everything assuming you have a motorbike. Mr. Lam always went out of his way to help us and arrange things. His family is very sweet.
Lam Homestay is a no frills, comfortable location to stay for the budget traveler. We initially booked the "standard room", but upgraded promptly to the "deluxe" room as the standard was much smaller and had no A/C or hot water. Mr. Lam was very kind about upgrading us for a mere $3 a night. He also set us up with motorbikes for $9 a day which seemed a bit pricey, but Phu Quoc is pricier than you might initially expect. The home stay itself is very basic (do not expect a lot), but the rooms are very clean. Mr. Lam was not always available to assist us, but his daughter or wife were always around. Unfortunately, outside of Mr. Lam none of them speak much English so it was difficult to communicate. However, the family was always kind and willing to help. If you're looking to meet backpackers, I would recommend a different place. If you are looking for a quiet, yet convenient location then the Lam Homestay is a fine choice. Also keep in mind that Phu Quoc is not nearly as cheap as mainland Vietnam so Lam Homestay is really a great budget option. I wish the family all the best!

Nice homestay in the village

Service, neighborhood,
We stayed at Lam Homestay for a week, over Christmas. Lam is a very knowledgeable host and helped us with everything we needed during our stay, including airport transfer and scooter rental. Unfortunately they were expanding the guesthouse during our stay, so there was quite a bit of noise. The very low water pressure in the shower was also a bit of a nuisance. The barbeque we had with Lam and other travelers on Christmas Eve was a highlight of our stay. All in all, it was a positive experience and we'd stay with Lam again.

Nice family, local area.

Family were nice
They are a nice family the Lam family so that is reason enough to spend time here. They can book all things for you if you need, albeit in their relaxed easy going fashion which is OK for me others might find it a bit vague. He's proud that he built the place himself without plans. Drawbacks of such anapproach can be a lack of ventilation in the bathroom. They are a relaxed family, drawbacks being our room was not serviced for the entire 4 night stay. Breakfasts are not included but are nice. Tour options are the same outfits as all over the island. We opted to rent one of their scooters. I'd recommend staying here as long as you are aware that there are some flaws and we paid slightly elevated price for what I'd normally expect for a place of this standard and service.
