I am a regular customer at Landmark Hotel. However, my recent 2-night stay at Landmark in Room 301 has been a most disappointing one. 1) The light above the dressing table was not working when I checked in. I made THREE reports. Each time, they assured me the problem would be fixed. But, until the day I checked out, the problem was still NOT fixed! 2) The room telephone was most FILTHY and disgusting. It was sticky and there were moulds on the earpiece and base dock. Again, I reported the matter, and they told me it would be cleaned. But it was not! 3) The glass window had been dislodged and would have fallen onto the ground three storeys downstairs if not for the fact that it was supported and blocked by the aircon condenser unit! I had a shock when I saw it. 4) The fridge had gone missing from the room. 5) There was no hot water boiler in the room. 6) There was not even a soap dish in the shower room. As a result, I had to place the soap and shampoo on the floor while I showered. It felt weird. 7) The cupboards were all dusty and not properly cleaned and wiped. So whose fault was it? The Chambermaid’s or the Maintenance Manager? Both, I feel. This is the problem of small town hotels in Malaysia. When the hotel is newly opened, everything will be good. Over time, they will let the condition deteriorate, until they become irreparable and awful – like what has happened to Garden Hotel in Batu Pahat. If Landmark does not watch it, it too will go the way of Garden Hotel. I mean, how much does it cost to invest in a sanitising spray to clean and sanitise the phone? The Maintenance Manager ought to go for proper retraining. Doesn’t he have a cleaning checklist for the Chambermaids at all?? Friends have been asking me to stay at “private homestays” – which I am told, are much cheaper and cleaner. Maybe I should ….
